Unlike most bipeds, Shistavanens are digitigrade, walking on their toes as it were (Think a similar leg structure to an earth dog, but with bigger feet to compensate for being bipedal).

- They were solitary hunters by nature, and were known for their abilities as bounty hunters and scouts. However, they were also isolationist as a species, and tended to discourage interaction with other species. Because of their hunting and tracking skills, the Empire enlisted the aid of the Shistavanen many times, in an effort to explore the farthest reaches of the galaxy. The Shistavanen were best known for their lupine appearance, complete with thick brown fur and glowing, red eyes. The males of the species were generally larger than the females, and both sexes could move about on all-fours or by walking upright. Communication between individuals was accomplished through a combination of loud barks and growls, although many Shistavanen learned the Basic language after the end of the Clone Wars. Shistavanen society was based on the family unit, with each family including the parents, their offspring, and sometimes the immediate in-laws. Young pups were homeschooled as part of a government program, but they were also trained as hunters and trackers as part of larger groups. Individuals were deemed to have reached adulthood when they made their first kill, often while hunting in the forests of Uvena I.

Shistavanens are excellent hunters and they can track prey in crowded urban streets and in natural environments. This natural hunting ablity combined with their ability to see in almost complete darkness makes them sought after soldiers, hunters and guards... even some Imperials have been known to have Shistavanen guards.

The “Wolf-men” are a sentient race descended from lupine hunters that roamed the hills of Uvena Prime. The culture of the Shistavanen has historically been focused around packs of fifteen to thirty individuals. The pack had a nomadic presence with flexible territorial boundaries with other packs. The primitive Shistavanen were historically feared as aggressive and tenacious to outlanders. Roughly twenty-five hundred years ago, the Shistavanen had almost warred itself into extinction. Packs were constantly fighting blood-feuds over territorial claims. A great deal of the diversity of the species was spilled over the ice of Uvena Prime. It took the intervention of Sullustan traders and, ultimately, Timi Oupp to help build a common Shistavanen identity and culture. The Shistavanen are still weary of outside influences in their society, but the population has expanded greatly in the last millennia. The overcrowding of Uvena Prime required Shistavanen to venture out into the galaxy. Due to their innate hunting skills, the Shistavanen found employ in a number of mercenary groups, criminal organizations, and planetary police groups.
