- The Sith Empire was the government founded by Sith in their efforts to dominate the Republic and Jedi. There have been many incarnations, some more successful than others. The most successful incarnation of Empire was not in-fact a Sith Empire but a Galactic Empire, but the latest versions of the Sith Empire have grown more successful.
- The current Sith Empire was formed from the remnants of the Original Sith Empire. This new Empire, also known as the True Sith sect, was created after Naga Sadow's disastrous campaign against the Galactic Republic in the Great Hyperspace War. The survivors fled known space to escape persecution by the Republic and its Jedi Order. After their departure from the original Empire's territory, the Sith discovered the forgotten world of Dromund Kaas and settled it to begin the process of rebuilding. Since the Treaty of Coruscant, the Sith Empire has been involved in a Cold War with the weakened Galactic Republic.

During the war, the Sith Empire took control of the planet Taris and during the occupation there they shelled the planet with continuous bombing runs. - Sith Empire referred to the Sith-ruled empires that existed long before the Galactic Empire. The ancient Sith built their empires through the use of slave labor, a practice that the Galactic Republic outlawed during its stewardship of the galaxy. At one point, ancient Sith and Jedi Knights fought against each other at the base of a Sith temple on Malachor, resulting in the Great Scourge that killed many warriors on both sides.
