| - Syr'ei was a female Tantaari and the cousin of Aria Nikina, Queen of Daispin. Syr'ei and Aria became close after the battle in which Aria overthrew her father and seized the throne, and Syr'ei was appointed one of her cousin's ministers of state. When Daispin joined the Golden Empire in 138 ABY and Aria became a Centurion of the Order of Keltrayu, Syr'ei became Regent of Daispin, ruling the planet on Aria's behalf. She continued her cousin's efforts to achieve social and political equality between Tantaari and Humans. Aria returned to Daispin to defend it against an attack by Sacco Vyrak during the Nightmare War. Though victorious, Aria was badly wounded, and remained onworld for months to heal and help her people recover. Syr'ei tried without success to convince Aria to remain on Daispin as a ruling queen and to take a husband to continue her line. When Aria left to return to the service of the Order, Syr'ei grew bitter, feeling that Aria was betraying her duty to her people. In 153 ABY, Aria again returned to Daispin, this time for personal reflection. She agreed to meet suitors at Syr'ei's behest, but by then it was a sham. Having given up hope of Aria being the kind of queen Syr'ei desired, the Consul had instead decided to eliminate Aria, and thus become queen herself. She contracted an assassin and personally poisoned Aria, and convinced her cousin not to carry her lightsabers. Affected by the poison, Aria wandered out of the capital and disappeared. Though the assassin did not return for his pay, Aria did not return either, and after Syr'ei's searchers found nothing, Syr'ei contacted Queen Rin Sakaros to relay the news that Aria was missing and presumed dead. Syr'ei organized formal mourning and put up a holo of Aria in the throne room alongside other remnants of fallen kings and queens, displaying Aria's lightsabers beneath it. Though she did not suspect Syr'ei particularly, Rin was also not willing to take her word for Aria's death, and sent four Centurions and four hundred Assault Commandos to Daispin to "assist" in the search. Syr'ei directed her staff to cooperate, but she refused to meet with the Centurions herself. It was not until Vem and Kelto Nembask showed up at the door of her throne room bearing Aria's bloody braid that she finally admitted them. When Vem wished to keep the braid to examine it for traces of poison or drugs, however, Syr'ei became uncomfortable and refused. Moments later, Kylaea and Malyri Porén arrived, dragging along the Tantaari Algan, who had supplied Syr'ei's agents with the poison for Aria. Before Syr'ei could do more than object, Aria herself emerged from a secret passage, alive and vengeful. Calling Syr'ei out for her treason, she commanded Syr'ei to choose a weapon to fight for the throne. Unable to muster words, Syr'ei seized an electrostaff from the wall; eschewing the opportunity to name one of her siblings as her champion, Aria opted to fight herself. Syr'ei managed to land a single blow with the staff before Aria slipped behind her, putting her in a chokehold. When Aria kicked out Syr'ei's legs, she gave a single twist and snapped her cousin's neck.
