William Joseph Dibdin (9 December 1850 - 9 June 1925) was an analytical chemist. Born in Somers Town, he was the son of Thomas Colman Dibdin, an illustrator and artist, and his wife ann Alice nee Jones. He was also involved in local politics, and was chairman of Sutton Urban District Council. In 1878 he married Marian Aglio, and they had a number of children. in his later years he lived in West Norwood, and he died there aged 74.

Born in Somers Town, he was the son of Thomas Colman Dibdin, an illustrator and artist, and his wife ann Alice nee Jones. Privately educated, from 1867-72 Dibdin was in Australia. He returned to London where he became an analytical chemist. in 1882 he was appointed chemical assistant and acting head of the Chemical and Gas Department of the Metropolitan Board of Works folowing the death of Thomas William Keates. He was eventually appointed Chemist to the Board in 1884. He held the post until the board's abolition, and became Chemist to the London County Council that replaced the board. He left the council's employment in 1897, continuing to work in a private capacity. He was also involved in local politics, and was chairman of Sutton Urban District Council. In 1878 he married Marian Aglio, and they had a number of children. in his later years he lived in West Norwood, and he died there aged 74.
