At the beginning of the 31st century, New Paris was the center of colonization efforts on La Terre and the first seat of the planetary government. Over the next couple of decades, the influence of New Paris waned in favor of other settlements on the planet, culminating in a short-lived siege in the mid-31st century led by forces of Rachael Akari. The siege was ended by the surrender of New Paris with one condition: The seat of government would be named after one of the early New Parisian leaders. This led to the naming of Freyssinnet (Millennium Era) as the seat of planetary government.

Ultimately, New Paris was destroyed in a long and unyielding series of natural disasters at the end of the 34th century and was never properly rebuilt. Today, New Paris consists of little more than a few buildings under control of the Mikagis.
