The 20th century would see the bursting forth of a new movement called The Singh Sabha which would bring new life to the Sikhs and revive their Religion. The new movement had planted its roots even as the Nirankari and Namdhari movements of 19th Century, with their restricted scope and schismatic character, had began to lose 'steam' after failing to stir the Sikh people. To quote Sardar Harbans Singh in his, The heritage of the Sikhs,
