Derek Lister (born 1st August, 1948) directed 24 episodes of Coronation Street from June 1975 to November 1976. He began his professional career as a theatre director for the Royal Shakespeare Company, Royal Court, Traverse, Soho, King's Head and Manchester's University Theatre, most of which were either world or UK premieres of new plays. For Granada Television he also directed Crown Court and later worked on BBC2 Playhouse, Play for Today, Juliet Bravo, Taggart and Casualty. He has both written and directed episodes of The Bill and worked on its spin-off Beech is Back.

With his writing work, he has authored eight plays for TV and radio, two of the latter being nominated for Sony Awards. His first stage play "Blue on Blue" premiered in October 2006 and was runner up for the 2007 Meyer-Whitworth Award.
