She was born in Suwalki, Podlaskie, Russian Empire (now Poland) on 30 October 1900 and moved to the United States in 1939. She was married twice, first to Alexander Roitman and after that to a man named Gerstman. Maria Gerstman died in Manhattan, New York on 7 December 2012, aged 112 years, 38 days.
