Sunbeam Television was founded in 1962, when they acquired WCKT-TV in Miami (now WSVN) from the COX & Knight publishing families, whose company, Biscayne Television Corporation, lost it's license. Sunbeam was acquired by Ansin in 1983. WCKT-TV/WSVN was Sunbeam's lone property until 1993, when they acquired Boston TV station, WHDH-TV, from New England Television. On September 14 2006, it was announced that Boston's CW affiliate, WLVI-TV, would be sold by the Tribune Company to Sunbeam for 113.7 million dollars. The sale was approved in late November of 2006 & Sunbeam took control of the station on December 18, 2006.
