  • Basque is a language isolate.
  • Basque was a human language spoken in the northeast part of Spain and southwestern France. In her magnum opus The Romulan Way, Terise Haleakala-LoBrutto compared the way the proto-Romulans had derived their language, Rihan, from Old High Vulcan to the way Basque had derived from Latin. (TOS - Rihannsu novel: The Romulan Way) This is a factual error, though whether by LoBrutto or novelist Diane Duane is unclear. The Basque tongue is famously a linguistic isolate with no connection to any other known language.
  • Basque and its speakers offer the exciting chance to see a non-Indo-European culture deal with contemporary, Western issues. The last two millennia have witnessed the fall of kings and the rise of democracy, the Age of Enlightenment and the ascendency of reason, geniuses like Aquinas, Bach, Shakespeare, and Einstein, the betterment of human living standards and even the decline of worldwide poverty — and only one people group, the Basque, have had the iron will to say no to it all.
  • L'habitant du Pays Basque (ou Euchcaddie dans leur langue) est le Basque. La femelle de cette espèce se nomme la Basque et non la Basquaise ou la Basquette comme ont tendance à croire les non initiés. Image:ETA.jpg __TOC__
