Kapiti Coast District is in the northern corner of the west of the Wellington Region. It was formed in 1989 as part of a countrywide revision of local government boundaries. Towns (some of them former boroughs or town districts) include (from south to north) Paekakariki, Raumati, Paraparaumu, Waikanae, and Otaki.
