The Edward Street Estate was the first social housing estate to begin construction in the Deptford area of London. It began construction in 1945, the year World War II ended, and the first two blocks, Larch House and Beech House were completed in 1947. These were the first postwar blocks of flats to be completed by Deptford Council. When completed, there were five blocks of flats located on the site between Edward Street and Clyde Street. Later, the Evelyn Estate to the north would be built, and the Hyde Street Estate on the opposite side of Edward Street would also be built.

In the late 1990s, the area was regenerated and as a result, all the blocks on the estate were demolished to make way for low-rise terraced housing.
