- The Keratin were a race of advanced slug-like beings, capable of using gold to conduct and amplify their psychic powers. In 2008, they contacted the Auriga Clinic's Dr Francis Augur, who agreed to help them conduct their experiments on gold in salt water. They told him they needed to take control of people to overcome the language barrier, but were really enslaving them since, being slugs, salt was deadly to them. Their plan was to develop a bacteria which would boil away Earth's oceans in a day, destroying all life on the planet but exposing millions of tons of gold to aid them in their conquest of the universe. The plan was defeated by Sarah Jane Smith, and the Keratin representative on Earth was killed when Dr Auger injected it with salt water. (AUDIO: The Glittering Storm)

They also reinforce the parts of the mouth responsible for breaking down food in the mouth - the tongue and hard palate. Unfortunately, some fungi, particularly those responsible for athlete's foot and ringworm feed on keratin. In addition, several genetic conditions involve a mutation in one of the genes that form keratin.

Meersalz ist tödlich für sie. Im Jahr 2008 nehmen sie Kontakt mit Dr. Francis Augur, dem Leiter der Auriga Clinic, auf. Dieser soll ihnen helfen Experimente von Gold in Salzwasser durchzuführen. Dazu senden sie einen Keratin auf die Erde der mit Augur zusammen arbeitet. Dieser erklärt Augur, dass er die Menschen kontrollieren muss um seine Sprachbarriere überwinden und mit den Menschen sprechen zu können. Doch in Wahrheit versklavt der Kreatin die Menschen und sorgt dafür, dass sie Gold stehlen, damit er sie weiter kontrollieren kann. Außerdem lässt er die Menschen einen Bakterienstamm entwickeln, der die Weltmeere innerhalb eines Tages zum Kochen zu bringen und damit 20 Million Tonnen Gold freizusetzen. Dieses Gold soll den Keratin helfen das Universum zu erobern. Jedoch würde dessen Freisetzung auch alles Leben auf der Erde zerstören. Sarah Jane Smith und ihr Team versuchen den Plan zu vereiteln. Als Augur die wahren Ziele der Keratin erkennt hilft er Sarah Jane Smith in dem er diese vor dem Keratin schützt und den Keratin tötet. Danach ist die Kontrolle des Keratins über die Menschen aufgehoben. Sarah Jane Smith zerstört die bereits entwickelte Bakterienkultur gemeinsam mit Luke Smith. Danach erklärt sie Mr. Smith, dass dieser die Keratin im Auge behalten soll, damit sie gleich wieder zur Stelle sind wenn die Keratin einen erneuten Eroberungsversuch wagen sollten.
