__NOWYSIWYG__ So around three-four years ago, a forum was creating with the express purpose of debating the canonicity of Love Potion 8. At that time the reasoning given for considering it not canon was that Bryke had not given any input nor approval. Since then, we have now established a continuity hierarchy. Tier 4 of the hierarchy clearly states that things can be canon "without direct involvement from the series' creators and/or creative team," which would mean that the reasoning given in the previous forum is moot. As far as I can tell, nothing in this book contradicts anything in the higher tiers. Should Love Potion 8 be considered canon now? Srijay K - TechFilmer 16:12, October 29, 2017 (UTC)

Srijay K - TechFilmer 16:12, October 29, 2017 (UTC) Before I support this, I haven't actually read the book, and only read our wiki page, but do the characters actually drink a love potion? Since potions or things like that exist nowhere else in the universe, if this is true, I would be hesitant to call this book canon. 08:16, October 30, 2017 (UTC) I found scans of the book (not gonna provide a link though) and to directly quote it (side note: get ready for the most basic English ever): "The nomads offered everyone a special drink called Love Potion #8. "The first seven batches didn't turn out so well," Chong explained. "Well that's reassuring. So what's in this?" Sokka asked. "Berries!" said Lily. The friends drank the juice. "There's also a secret ingredient to open up your hearts...to the power of love!" she continued. So yes, they do drink a "potion" persay, although technically it could just be a placebo effect. It isn't the first time we've had "special liquids". I'm honestly not sure which way I lean to be honest. Erring on the side of safety dictates that we classify it as non-canon. Srijay K - TechFilmer 02:14, October 31, 2017 (UTC) Well, this is a tough one to say the least. It doesn't necessarily contradict anything and the creators had nothing to do with it, right? Another "special liquid" would be cactus juice which also affected people by making them act in ways they wouldn't have while "sober". This "love potion" could just be a type of cactus juice, but different. Sort of a vodka/tequila thing in the real world. In any case, I think our best bet would be to leave it as non-canon for now until we get some confirmation that it's canon, which is unlikely, but always a possibility. 04:24, October 31, 2017 (UTC) Here's my take: it's published by Nickelodeon so it is canon by definition. Is part of the "main continuity"? Probably not. — Hasdi Bravo • 14:22, October 31, 2017 (UTC) I would also vote against considering this to be part of the main continuity, though it is an official work. As such, perhaps we can adapt the {{Canon<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>}} template to say that the pages sporting that template are not part of the main continuity rather than not being canon. 15:08, October 31, 2017 (UTC) I suggest we rename {{Canon<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>}} to {{Main-con}}{{Uncon}} and modify the info-text as follows — Hasdi Bravo • 17:04, October 31, 2017 (UTC) I don't see the point of a rename (what does uncon even stand for?), but I do support, as said before, the adaption of the text of the template (though without the caps lock, as that is just unnecessary and looks a bit tacky). 17:28, October 31, 2017 (UTC) Well, I am fine with any name as long it is not {{Canon}} because the term "canon" tend to mean something very different outside of Avatar Wiki. The term "continuity" doesn't have that ambiguity in common usage. You know what, forget the renaming. Sure, no caps lock. — Hasdi Bravo • 17:40, October 31, 2017 (UTC) The Earth Kingdom Chronicles and Ready to Read series are both, for the most part, very consistent with the main continuity and are largely supplemental to the episodes from which they draw inspiration. Love Potion 8 is the single narrative not based off an episode and so it should not be considered in the same standing as the other stories from those books. I agree that it is canon per our revised definitions of canonicity, but it is definitely not part of main continuity.
