The Galactic Empire, or just the Empire, was fractured following the deaths of Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader at the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY. The Empire split up among the loyalists and the renegade warlords vying for power. However, in 5 ABY, Supreme Prophet Kadann found Ken on Yavin 4—the grandson of the deceased Emperor. Bringing him to Coruscant, Kadann revealed the younger Palpatine to the galaxy, and promoted him as the rightful heir to the Imperial throne. The majority of Imperial factions accepted Ken as the Galactic Emperor, and he began a campaign of unification against warlords and the New Republic.
