Harry Turtledove's interest in writing alternate history was sparked by de Camp's novel, Lest Darkness Fall (1939). In 1999, Turtledove wrote "The Pugnacious Peacemaker", a sequel to de Camp's Wheels of If which was published in Down in the Bottomlands and Other Places.
