Luzhin meets his death, when his former serf, to avenge the honor of his daughter, throws him in a river, shoots him three times, poisons him, and pours vodka down his throat until he dies.

Rasputin, revealed to be the Mad Monk of historical infamy, gained knowledge of future events from a faulty machine.
