A range inhibitor was a device that was used to keep unmanned weapons in check in case they refused to obey or rebelled against their commanders. When activated, it prevented the unmanned weapon from moving an unspecified distance, emitting a purple electromagnetic field similar to an EMP grenade. They could be operated by either a cellphone-like remote controller or an AR system.
