| - Bill Pickering (full name William Harold Pickering) was a defender who made 215 league appearances for Rovers between 1931 and 1937, scoring just one goal during that period, and was a member of the team that won the Division Three (South) Cup during the 1934-35 season. Pickering's first team was non-league side Latch & Batchelor, from where he joined Sunderland on amateur terms in 1924. A year later he signed for Merthyr Town, before spending a single year spell at Division Three (South) side Gillingham for the 1926–27 season. In 1927 he moved to First Division Huddersfield Town, where he made just one first team appearance in a two-year stay with the Yorkshire club. He moved back to Wales for the 1930–31 season, where he played for Colwyn Bay United, before joining Bristol Rovers in 1931. During his six-year stay in Bristol, Bill notched up 215 league appearances, the most he played for any of his league teams. He headed north to join Division Three (North) team Accrington Stanley in 1937, and after a brief stint at Oswestry Town in 1938 he joined his final club Cradley Heath later that same year. Pickering died in Warley in the West Midlands in 1971, aged 69.
