On August 17, an area of disturbed weather was 100 miles east of the Lesser Antilles was given a high chance of further development into a Tropical Storm or a Hurricane. The next day, the disturbance grew and strengthened into Tropical Storm Ivan. Ivan moved Northwest towards St. Maarten and intensified into a strong category 1 hurricane. Ivan traveled just north of St. Maarten, further intensifying into a Category 2 on the 20th. Ivan went through a rapid deepening and became a Category 4 Hurricane, just 12 hours of being a Category 2. Ivan was now headed towards the Bahamas, NHC issued Hurricane Warnings through all of the Bahamas and most of Florida. Ivan dissipated on the 29th Ivan caused over 560 Million USD in damages and killed over 1000 people, and injured 2500 others.
