The station is part of the Meridian Downtown Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Union Station, officially dedicated on December 11, 1997, includes several modes of passenger transportation including the Meridian Transit System, AMTRAK, Norfolk Southern rail corridor, Greyhound, Trailways and other providers of transit services. Meeting rooms on the mezzanine level are designed for community activities, the existing east wing houses Meridian's economic development agency and an old Railway Express Agency (REA) building has been converted into a railroad museum. Further restoration and development of the Union Station REA building will be a major tourist attraction
