Finally, Gammer enters the office of the Seneschal, the maester who leads the Conclave and the entire Citadel. Gammer Wilde holds up a torch. "Who will help? Speak, you geldings!" The terrified acolytes try to protect their precious books. Having declared the acolytes useless, Gammer seeks the archmaesters, who form the Conclave that governs the Citadel.
