Henry Benjamin "Hank" Greenberg (January 1, 1911 – September 4, 1986), nicknamed "Hammerin' Hank," was an American Hall of Fame 5-time All-Star and 2-time MVP first baseman and outfielder in Major League Baseball. He is 7th among all major league ballplayers lifetime in slugging percentage (.605). Among retired ballplayers, only Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx, and Barry Bonds have recorded higher career slugging percentages.   • Henry Benjamin "Hank" Greenberg (January 1, 1911 – September 4, 1986), known as The Hebrew Hammer, was a US first baseman and outfielder for the Detroit Tigers from 1933 into 1941, at which point he was drafted into the United States Army. After World War II, Greenberg returned to the Tigers, playing for them in 1945 and 1946. He also played one season for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1947. He hit a career batting average of .313 and a total of 331 home runs. He won the World Series with the Tigers in 1935 and 1945, was American League MVP in 1935 and 1940, was selected to five AL All-Star Teams, and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1956.

An der Universität blieb er ein Jahr, bis ihn die Detroit Tigers verpflichteten. Sein Debüt bei den Tigers in der American League gab er am 14. September 1930 gegen die Yankees. Einen festen Platz im Team der Tigers konnte Greenberg sich aber erst 1933 sichern, in der Zwischenzeit spielte er bei den Teams der Tigers im Minor League Baseball. In seiner ersten kompletten Saison schlug er 12 Home Runs
