  • How do you spend your time on public transport? Waiting for it and travelling on it can use up rather a lot of precious moments of our daily lives. Perhaps now is the time to make better use of this spare time so that you stop viewing it as wasteful and start seeing it as a great opportunity. This article makes some suggestions to help kickstart your own ideas. * Read. A great time to read a novel, the newspaper, a magazine, or the work notes that you were too tired to go through last night. * Think. Take your favourite spiritual or inspirational book, or a notebook and pencil, and use these as a stimulus to guide some fruitful and deep thinking time. Write down any good ideas or inspirations that occur. * Enjoy a new music selection. Prepare a new selection of music for your iPod every week. Stretch the boundaries of what you usually listen to and get into some new musical influences. * Observe. Look at the world around you and really see it. Watch what people are doing as they head to work or are working already. Watch the sky for the birds and watch the trees and grass for activity. See the changing colours as the day moves on. Try to see things you have never noticed before. * Write a letter or a card. You aren't with your computer, so take this as a great opportunity to brush up on letter-writing skills. Most of us still love the simple pleasure of receiving a hand written letter or note to say hello. Express your appreciation for someone else in whatever you write. * Update your journal. This is a great time to write up events that you want to remember and to clarify your feelings. Use a sturdy journal that you can lean the pen on easily. * Plan a family event, dinner party or trip out with friends. Many of the details of such an event will benefit from your free time to think. * Go through work ahead for the day. If you have reading material, read it ahead of the meeting. If you have a meeting or negotiation ahead, go through scenarios in your head and try to cover possible different angles in advance of being at work. * Smile. Smile at someone you don't know. If you are feeling really confident, compliment them on their clothing or something else that you notice about them. Let other people know they are valuable and cherished, whoever they may be.
