Born in Brighouse, Yorkshire he was a jobbing actor familiar in villainous roles. He played Detective Inspector Dunn in twelve 1962 episodes of the Liverpool based police series Z Cars. He made three later appearances in that series, once as a promoted Dunn and later as a different character. He appeared in four episodes of Steptoe and Son in different roles and was a regular actor in If It Moves, File It.
