(212) ShadowDragon8685: She's still all passive-aggressive, though, but... (212) ShadowDragon8685: Yay! Zalana's here. Attempting to assign the role of PLAYER to (266) Vermillion... (212) ShadowDragon8685: hrm. (212) ShadowDragon8685: First, should we let Kate back in or not, Ferrago? (212) ShadowDragon8685: Nobody else remaining knows her. (235) Ferrago: Hmm. (235) Ferrago: I wouldn't object. (235) Ferrago: It's really up to you. (212) ShadowDragon8685: All right. (212) ShadowDragon8685: But anyway, would you guys like to continue? (235) Ferrago: I'm up for it. (266) Zalana: Yeah (212) ShadowDragon8685: All right, let's see... (212) ShadowDragon8685: When everyone last saw each other, they had decided to split up in the course of getting out of the Jedi Temple inconspiciously, after escaping through the bottom into the deep, old construction. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Zalana, you must have made your way out somehow, only to find that Niari and Ferrago had taken the Phoenix Sunrise on autopilot to the bar, the Red Republic, where Ackbar was waiting, staking the place out. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Whereas in the bar, Niari and Ferrago went and searched out someone unrelated to the stakeout that Ackbar said he had seen and wished investigated. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Unfortunately, it seemed that she rubbed Niari way the hell wrong, because the Lethan Twi'lek seems perfectly willing to let her get the stuffing beat out of her over running up a bill that she was apparently unable to pay owing to her accounts having been frozen. (212) ShadowDragon8685: But Ferrago, I think, you were going to intervene, right? (235) Ferrago: Yeah. (235) Ferrago: One sec... (235) Ferrago: Ferrago stands and follows the men dragging Asyr. "Excuse me..." (212) ShadowDragon8685: They're big. One's a Weequay, the other's Human. The human turns back to look at you. "Got a problem?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: Zalana, presumably you decided to head to the bar, and made your way there alone. (212) ShadowDragon8685: You enter to get hit by a wave of cold humidity. The inside of the Republic Red seems to be a hangout for aquatics, though you see two "muscle" guys dragging a very drunk, middle-aged female Bothan between them. She's holding up well for how drunk she apparently is, trying (calmly,) to explain to the "gentlemen" that her accounts being frozen suddenly is not her fault, and that she had no intention to defraud them of anything. (266) Zalana: (( of course )) (212) ShadowDragon8685: You also see Ferrago behind them, with Ackbar in the back of a bar, with Niari. Niari looks furious; Ackbar looks... Nervous. ** (266) Zalana hold back a sec, then slips to Niari and Ackbar to find out what is going on ** (235) Ferrago: "Not at all, but I think I heard something about this woman not being able to pay?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: "What's it to you, scales," the Human asks, as the woman continues to talk... I did mention she was sloshed, right? (266) Zalana: (to nNiari w, low) "Looks like I missed something interesting...." (235) Ferrago: "Well, if that's all the problem is, then I can pay her tab. How much does she owe?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: Niari looks at the Bothan, coldly, shaking her head, silently. Ackbar looks distraught at Niari's refusal to act, and sighs. He starts to explain. (212) ShadowDragon8685: "She ran up a bill of two hundred and ten. With idiot tax, that'll be four-twenty, rounded up to the nearest denomination of a hundred. Half a grand." (235) Ferrago: "Idiot tax? I don't think I've heard of that one." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "That woman is Asyr Sei'lar," Ackbar explains, pushing a datapad to Zala. "She is - was - a member of Rogue Squadron, a hero. One of the Conquerers of Courscant, and a hero of the New Republic for many years, before she vanished thirteen years ago. Everyone thought she was dead." (266) Zalana: "Oh my..." (235) Ferrago: "Is that an official tax? It must be very draining on your income." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "I don't know what happened down there," Ackbar quietly says. "But Niari here is angry with her, and it seems she ran out of money somehow," he whispers. "We'd better put a stop to this." (212) ShadowDragon8685: The human smirks. "The 'idiot tax' is called "you ran up a bill without being able to pay, so you nerf up double or we break your knees," he explains to Ferrago. (266) Zalana: "Such disrespect is uncalled for." (212) ShadowDragon8685: Ackbar nods. "I agree. This place is altogether rougher than I like." (235) Ferrago: "As I'm sure she already explained, her account was not frozen when she came in here. I'll pay the original bill of two-hundred ten, and we can make an exception this time. I think that's reasonable." (235) Ferrago: "After all, we wouldn't want any trouble." (212) ShadowDragon8685: The two of them look to each other, over the head of the still-calmly-explaining Bothan. "Heh. He wants to pay her original bill and get us let her go," the Human says, and the Weequay chuckles. "He wouldn't want any trouble. I guess that means he wants to be reasonable. Should be reasonable?" (266) Zalana: "It seems Ferrago has a bit of gentleman to him after all. And I thought he was a grump" (212) ShadowDragon8685: Ackbar winces at Zalana. "I don't have the kind of money they want on me, and if I use a bank account in here, everyone will know who I am. Subtelty will go out the window." (212) ShadowDragon8685: Well, he makes the Mon Calamarian Eye-Wince, anyway. (235) Ferrago: Am I still armed, or did they confiscate my weapons at the door? (212) ShadowDragon8685: This isn't that kind of a bar. (212) ShadowDragon8685: You're still armed. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Of course, so is everyone else... (235) Ferrago: And are the bouncers armed? (235) Ferrago: Ahh. (235) Ferrago: Alrighty. (235) Ferrago: What are the bouncers packing, for the record? (212) ShadowDragon8685: DL-44s and stun batons. (235) Ferrago: "Perhaps I could toss in another ninety, making the total 300." (212) ShadowDragon8685: The Weequay looks at the human. "Three hundred, or nothing but some busted knees." "Good offer," the human says. "It is. But we haven't busted any knees in two weeks. They'll think we're losing our touch." "Yeah. We're way behind quota." (310) Ferrago (enter): 19:15 (212) ShadowDragon8685: The Weequay looks at the human. "Three hundred, or nothing but some busted knees." "Good offer," the human says. "It is. But we haven't busted any knees in two weeks. They'll think we're losing our touch." "Yeah. We're way behind quota." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Awfully bureaucratic bouncers," Ackbar glibly says. "Please - do something," he asks you, Zala. Attempting to assign the role of PLAYER to (310) Ferrago... (310) Ferrago: "Ah. I'm sorry you feel that way." (266) Zalana: "I will try" (311) Kuther (enter): 19:17 (310) Ferrago: "Perhaps I should rephrase it in a way you'll understand." He reaches down to his hip and pats Lucrecia inside her sheath. "Mine is bigger than yours." ** (266) Zalana slowly approaches the group ** (310) Ferrago: "Let's not make a scene, now." (310) Ferrago: "Take the three-hundred." (212) ShadowDragon8685: Ooooh, intimidation! (266) Zalana: "I would listen to him if I were you." ** (266) Zalana strides forawrd, pulling ehrself to her full ehight ** (266) Zalana: "He has a quota to fill as well. And it would stop at the knees." (212) ShadowDragon8685: Well now... (212) ShadowDragon8685: The Human and the Weequay both turn to face Zalana and Ferrago. They're taller than the Rodian by an inch or so - but much shoorter than the big, hooved, horned Kalu'a. (266) Zalana: "Now me? I don't like such things. " (212) ShadowDragon8685: On the other hand, it's their home turf; the bartender reaches under the bar, a few "patrons" reach into their jackets... (266) Zalana: "And I don't see why it has to get to this point." (212) ShadowDragon8685: They think they have you 'clearly outnumbered', so you're at a -10 to the attempt. (212) ShadowDragon8685: But their Will Def isn't that good. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Do either of you have Persuasion trained? (266) Zalana: (Trainde with retry) (212) ShadowDragon8685: Ferrago? (212) ShadowDragon8685: You want to Aid Another the trained law-woman on this one? (310) Ferrago: sorry (310) Ferrago: I do (266) Zalana: (( Can I use Adept Negotioator out of combat? )) (310) Ferrago: one sec (212) ShadowDragon8685: All right. Roll Persuasion, to beat DC 10 to Aid Another. (310) Ferrago: (I have +9 Persuasion) (320) Joe (enter): 19:22 (310) Ferrago: (I don't need to roll, do I? Lowest result I could get is 10, and there are no crit failures on skill checks) (212) ShadowDragon8685: No, you don't. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Um, Adept Negotiator... (212) ShadowDragon8685: What class is that from? (266) Zalana: (( Jedi )) (320) Joe: Disconnecting from server... (320) Joe (exit): 19:23 (266) Zalana: (( lowers enemy down condition track with a Persuaion check )) (212) ShadowDragon8685: yeah, you can. (266) Zalana: (( so here we go.... )) (266) Zalana: Skill Check: Persuasion [15,10] = (25) (212) ShadowDragon8685: Yeah, that drops them on the initiative track. (212) ShadowDragon8685: And it'll more than serve to make them think twice about starting something. "... Fine. Three hundred," the muscle mutters. ** (266) Zalana smiles brightly ** (266) Zalana: "Oh I am so happy we ere able to work this out. Now everyone can enjoy their libations without worry." (266) Zalana: "And I will concel this woman in keeping better track of her finances." (310) Ferrago: "Excellent," Ferrago says, as though there had been no disagreement, and pays without any further fuss. (266) Zalana: (( councel )) (266) Zalana: (( counSel, even )) (212) ShadowDragon8685: The bouncers turn and withdraw into the Republic Red, the 'hidden' gaming establishment below the Red Republic bar. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Niari slips out, looking very distracted all of a sudden. (310) Ferrago: Ferrago watches them leave, then after they've left mutters a few choice words in Huttese and Rodian under his breath. ** (266) Zalana handily take hold of the young lady and leads her back to the table with Ackbar. ** (310) Ferrago: "Thank you for diffusing that situation, Zalana." (212) ShadowDragon8685: She's not that young. She is quite drunk, too. (266) Zalana: "No problem. I felt that your attempts at gentlemanly conduct deserved assistance" (212) ShadowDragon8685: She doesn't seem to want to sit at Ackbar's table, but with Ferrago and Zala both guiding her, she doesn't seem to have much of a choice, so she sighs as she slides into the table, closing her eyes wearily. "I didn't really need you to... Do that," she says, picking her words carefully and slowly. (266) Zalana: "Yes, because yu had the situation all under control" (266) Zalana: "They were going to break their hands across your face, and then you would make your move?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: "I was trying to explain to them that I was perfectly capable of paying if they'd just let me go and get some hard credits from my X-Wing," she says, again, carefully. (310) Ferrago: "Aren't I usually a gentleman?" Ferrago asks, slightly jokingly. (310) Ferrago: "And actually, I think they were going to break her knees," he remarks. "Regardless, it doesn't matter. We went ahead and did it." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Still," she says, slowly. "Thank you." The silver-marked Bothan slumps against the seat, looking ragged and worn. (310) Ferrago: "A Jedi's life is sacrifice, after all." ** (266) Zalana looks around ** (266) Zalana: "Wehere's Niari?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: "She slipped out," Ackbar said. "But I'm more interested to know how you came to be here," he says, addressing that to the Bothan. "But there's still the matter of the Fixer. I saw him slip into the room below while you and Niari were downstairs." (310) Ferrago: "Well, I have Zalana here now for backup. Should we pursue him?" (310) Ferrago: "Or wait here for him to come back out?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: "It might be better to cast our net here," Ackbar advises, but Asyr shakes her head. "There's a back way out. Leads to an airspeeder g'rage." (310) Ferrago: "There are two of us, I suppose one could go in after him while the other waits at this exit in case he tries to make a break for it." (310) Ferrago: "Ahh, a back exit? That complicates things slightly." (212) ShadowDragon8685: She nods. "It's through the 'freshers. There's one marked for 'other'. It's fake." (266) Zalana: "I will flush him out, you go around and cover the exit." (266) Zalana: "I will not let him get away anothr time" (340) LC (enter): 19:43 (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Remember, it's the Fixer," Ackbar reminds you. He's referring to the fixer that the slaver you tracked down last time was using to arrange things. (212) ShadowDragon8685: A Mon Calamari male. (266) Zalana: "Fine, so I won't punch him to death just yet." (266) Zalana: "Nut anyone who associates with slavers doesn't deserve much clemency" (266) Zalana: "Let's go" (235) Ferrago (exit): 19:46 (212) ShadowDragon8685: Ackbar frowns. "He should be turned over to the authorities. But it wouldn't hurt to question him first." (310) Ferrago: "Right." Am I heading to the back exit, then? (212) ShadowDragon8685: Asyr volunteers to lead you to the rear exit (212) ShadowDragon8685: Presumably, Zalana would stake out the front? (212) ShadowDragon8685: And Ackbar will get the Phoenix Sunrise and bring it to the airspeeder garage doors for when you've grabbed him. (266) Zalana: (( sounds good )) Attempting to assign the role of PLAYER to (340) Seiko... (310) Ferrago: Ferrago accepts Asyr's offer and heads in. (311) Kuther (exit): 19:48 ** (266) Zalana takes postion ** (212) ShadowDragon8685: The Bothan woman leads you out; you pinpoint the Mon Cal fixer in a table, talking to someone, but he doesn't make you as having anything to do with him. Asyr points out to you the refreshers, where there's three doors, one for males, one for females, and one for 'others'. "The middle stall in the 'other' is 'out of order.' The back is a door that leads to the airspeeder garage. The key-code is 4498." (266) Zalana: (commlink) "You in position yet?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: Ferrago? (212) ShadowDragon8685: You want Zala to flush him out? (212) ShadowDragon8685: As Asyr is showing you the false refresher room, you hear the two toughs from earlier complaining at each other, asking if the other is being cute by hiding their guns. (310) Ferrago: (sorry) (310) Ferrago: "Alright, I'm at the exit," he says into his comlink. "Move in whenever you're ready." ** (266) Zalana puts her best face on and approaches the target. ** (266) Zalana: "Here we go" (212) ShadowDragon8685: It... Goes rather like clockwork, really. (212) ShadowDragon8685: The Fixer was familar with Zalana's description, thanks to her having apprehended his associate and being one of a few of her kind in Republic space. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Predictably, he takes no chances and tries to slip out the back... (212) ShadowDragon8685: Only to find himself staring down the barrel Ferrago's blaster. (310) Ferrago: "Achuta, pateesa." (212) ShadowDragon8685: He gets shuffled into the Phoenix Sunrise at blaster point and 'secured' in a closet with a crate to 'sit on and think about what you've done,' while you fly him back to Home One, landed in the Courscant industrial district, in a landing bay normally used for massive, absolutely beastial freighters. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Ackbar insists that the drunken Bothan lay down, and besides, letting the perp stew a bit gives Seiko time to filter back from how she escaped from the Jedi Temple without being seen by the guy who owns it now. (212) ShadowDragon8685: In fact, she shows up in an air-taxi about the time you're considering interrogating him, after having commed everyone that you had him and they could come back. ** (266) Zalana jumps up and down in happiness that all survived. ** (310) Ferrago: "How did everyone get out?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: Well, the group split up after descending into the old towers upon which the Jedi Temple had been constructed. (212) ShadowDragon8685: And after that, it was a long journey up to civilization for everyone. ** (310) Ferrago tries not to watch Zalana jumping up and down. Especially not the bits that go up and down with each jump. ** ** (266) Zalana runs up to hug Seiko, but thinks better of it. ** (340) Seiko: Seiko blinks at Zalana as she rushes towards her "And what do you think your doing?" (266) Zalana: "Uuh...I was jsut excited and thrilled at your survival that's all" ** (266) Zalana nervously twists her feet and put her hands behind her back ** (266) Zalana: "Sorry " (212) ShadowDragon8685: She was gone a few hours. (212) ShadowDragon8685: It's not like anyone was in serious mortal danger. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Well, except for the time Ferrago almost drowned himself and Niari... (212) ShadowDragon8685: And the time they risked plummeting to their dooms... (212) ShadowDragon8685: But yeah. (340) Seiko: "Your a strange one." Seiko says, giving her an odd look "Did I miss any of the fun?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: Anyway, you guys have a crook to interrogate, don't you? (266) Zalana: "We have the fixer now, and we were deciding on how to apporach him" ** (266) Zalana kicks the makeshift jail for emphasis ** (310) Ferrago: "How do you feel about a good old-fashioned interrogation?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: Um... (212) ShadowDragon8685: There's an actual brig on Home One. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Complete with forcefields. (310) Ferrago: "We wouldn't want you to miss out on all the fun, after all. I think your pleasant demeanor would make you suited to the job." (212) ShadowDragon8685: It's a given that you tossed him in there to cool his heels while considering how to approach it. (340) Seiko: "Letting me do the interogation might not be a bad idea. But you two may not wish to watch." (212) ShadowDragon8685: ... Jedi, not Jack Bauer. (310) Ferrago: "You can't be serious." (310) Ferrago: "I grew up in Rodian theater. Violence was part of my => ilifestyle. => /i" (310) Ferrago: (oops) (310) Ferrago: lifestyle." (310) Ferrago: "I seriously doubt you're going to do anything I would so much as bat an eye at, especially since we want to keep this fellow in one piece." (266) Zalana: "Can we at least TALK to him first? bBefore we do bad things to him?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: Fortunately, Ackbar's not around to hear this... (266) Zalana: "This doesn't seem very Jedi-ish" (310) Ferrago: "Really, Seiko, don't go trying to impress me or anything," he says in a way that he knows will annoy her. "See if you can make him talk with minimal effort." (340) Seiko: "Go ahead. Im not big on chit-chat. I'll wait around for now while you go bang your head against that wall." (266) Zalana: "Doens't make us that much better than him, or those thugs at teh bar trying to hurt the nice drunk lady." (310) Ferrago: "That is, making a few threats. Not so much following up on them." (310) Ferrago: "Forget it. Zalana, do you want to try?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: She was the trained law-being... (266) Zalana: "Fine. I will tlak to him. And you will see that such things don't have to be violent" ** (266) Zalana go in to talk to the prisoner ** (266) Zalana: "Hello. My name's Zalana How are you doing?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: The Mon Cal is quite upset. He's obviously on a Mon Cal vessel, but also equally obviously in the brig. He was fuming on the seat, and stands up. "Who are you? Who do you think you are, kidnapping people at gunpoint?!" (212) ShadowDragon8685: Then he remembers, and gulps. "Y-You're those Jedi tha-that killed all of..." (212) ShadowDragon8685: ((Crap. I forgot the slaver's name.)) (266) Zalana: "I do apologize for my associate's...methods. But you see, you ahve information we need, and time is of the essence" (340) Seiko: Seiko follows along for now, though she stays quiet and in the back (266) Zalana: "Oh my. You know of that? Oh dear." (266) Zalana: (( brb )) (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Y-You... You don't have the authority to hold me," he says, shakily. (212) ShadowDragon8685: He doesn't look terribly assured by that assertation, though; quite the opposite. (340) Seiko: [1d20] => [12] = (12) (340) Seiko: (oops :p ) (340) Seiko: Seiko yawns, waiting for Zalana to do her thing (376) Ferrago (enter): 20:29 (266) Zalana: (( back )) (212) ShadowDragon8685: ((WB)) (376) Ferrago: (212) ShadowDragon8685: He doesn't look terribly assured by that assertation, though; quite the opposite. (376) Ferrago: (what's been said since then?) (212) ShadowDragon8685: ((... Nothing. Just Seiko yawning)) Attempting to assign the role of PLAYER to (376) Ferrago... (266) Zalana: "I did not realize you were privy to that. I assure you that was done only in self-defense." (376) Ferrago: (Ha.) (266) Zalana: "Well, some of it" (212) ShadowDragon8685: His color fades. (266) Zalana: "Well...my part at least" (266) Zalana: "well, some of my part." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Y-You... What do you want from me," the Fixer asks. (266) Zalana: "Anyway, nobody is going to hurt you if you cooperate." (376) Ferrago: (Remind me what we're talking about?) (266) Zalana: "We jsut want the location of your dirty filthy dslaver friend" (266) Zalana: "As well as any pertinent information you may have." ** (266) Zalana smiles sweetly ** (266) Zalana: "Now, I don't like slavers. I REALLY don't like them." (266) Zalana: "I don't like people who help them." (266) Zalana: "Those people I had to deal with? The ones you know about?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: "I... Don't mind others' businesses, I just... Provide documentation they want," he says, nervously. (266) Zalana: "They helped a slaver." (266) Zalana: "Now you don't want to be like them, do you?" (266) Zalana: "Helping a slver?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: The fixer clams up, thinking. "Will you let me go if I tell you what I know?" (266) Zalana: "Making me not like you??" (266) Zalana: "Hmmm....excellent question" (266) Zalana: "All depends." (266) Zalana: "If your info is good, and we catch the guy, I can't see why not." (212) ShadowDragon8685: He shakes his head. "And if he eludes you? No... I'll tell you everything I know, but I want no part of this."" (266) Zalana: "He WILL NOT elude me" ** (266) Zalana punches the wall for emphasis ** (212) ShadowDragon8685: The Mon Cal gulps, starting when Zalana punches the wall. (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Okay, okay!" ** (266) Zalana moves closer, hovering over the Mon Cal ** ** (266) Zalana then smiles sweetly again ** (266) Zalana: "Good! So, where do you want to start?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: "His real name is Monar Tal. He has ties to Corellia, I don't know how, but he left for Corellia when he jumped bail. But he got back on Courscant yesterday." (266) Zalana: "I see" (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Word is he might be trying to restart his business, but I know nothing of how or why. All I know is that supposedly he'd started looking for a pair of Bothans for acomplices and credible fake ID for them." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "I do know that if your business has taken a big hit, you're not going to try business as usual. You're going to need to jump-start it - to find a commission job somehow." (266) Zalana: "Commission job?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: He nods. (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Yes - a big paying job that someone needs done specifically." (266) Zalana: "Any clue as to who would provide such a job?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: The Mon Cal shakes his head. "No. But he's clearly looking for a Bothan child. Why? I can't say." ** (266) Zalana swallows hard. ** (266) Zalana: "A child you say? That won't do at all" (212) ShadowDragon8685: "I don't know anything about what he's planning. I just provided the fake ID." (266) Zalana: "Can you tell me anything on his current whereabouts? Coruscant's a big place" (266) Zalana: "You had to know where he is to get him the ID." (212) ShadowDragon8685: The Mon Cal shakes his head. "It was a dead-drop. I know where I dropped it, but it's almost certainly been collected by now." (266) Zalana: "Well, you really need to come up with something we can use to find him NOW." (212) ShadowDragon8685: He holds up his hands. "Look, I don't know. I can tell you how to track down the IDs when he uses them, but that will probably be too late." He sighs. "Let me think." (310) Ferrago (exit): 20:57 (212) ShadowDragon8685: Perhaps you should consult with your fellows? (266) Zalana: Perhaps (266) Zalana: "Hmmm...you ponder that for a sec. I will confer with my compatriots." ** (266) Zalana steps out and resecures the area. ** (266) Zalana: "Well...what do you guys think?" (340) Seiko: "About?" She replied, yawning once again "I dont know how to track down the ID's either." (266) Zalana: "Ferrago?" (376) Ferrago: "Not exactly my area of expertise, either. We could try heading to where he dropped it, and asking some questions from there." (212) ShadowDragon8685: Well, since Seiko and Zala took down his crew last time, he might well have done it in person. (376) Ferrago: "Maybe someone saw something. We could track him from there." (266) Zalana: "A plan that as good as any" (212) ShadowDragon8685: ((Damn. Looks like Zala's gotta go soon)) (266) Zalana: (( yeah leaving at 10 tonight )) (376) Ferrago: (Aww.) (266) Zalana: (( yeah, but good news is, this should be the last time I ahve to do this for a while. )) (266) Zalana: (( don't we have a slicer type on the Phoenix )) (266) Zalana: (( somebody has to have Trace )) (212) ShadowDragon8685: Didn't Ferrago take Computer Use? And there's always T3-TT or one of the mountain of astromechs that Ackbar has. (340) Seiko: "I dont know. Im still concerned about that whole mess back at the temple more then anything." (376) Ferrago: I did (376) Ferrago: But I don't have Trace (212) ShadowDragon8685: Trace? Wha? (212) ShadowDragon8685: This isn't Shadowrun. (212) ShadowDragon8685: ((Note to self: find a Shadowrun game)) (376) Ferrago: Slicer talent (212) ShadowDragon8685: Ahh. (376) Ferrago: Hmm (266) Zalana: "Indeed that is distressing. but e must find this slaver. You heard him: they intend on capturing a child, if they ahven't already." (423) Riccto (enter): 21:14 (376) Ferrago: Wait, it just lets you use Use Computer in place of Gather Information (212) ShadowDragon8685: ..... (376) Ferrago: but didn't you roll Gather Info into Persuasion? (212) ShadowDragon8685: Which is irrelevant. (212) ShadowDragon8685: My house rule does that anyway. (376) Ferrago: Meaning, technically I have that (212) ShadowDragon8685: Persuasion became the "person to person" Gather Information. (376) Ferrago: ah, well then (212) ShadowDragon8685: And Computer Use became the "electronic" Gather Information. (423) Riccto (exit): 21:15 (376) Ferrago: Alrighty (266) Zalana: well whoever has the best Computer Use needs to get on it. (376) Ferrago: I have it at +11 (212) ShadowDragon8685: That's pretty decent. (376) Ferrago: So should Zalana go back in and ask where he dropped the ID off? He said he knew where. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Sure, he'll tell you. ** (266) Zalana does so ** (212) ShadowDragon8685: It's a pretty run-down place lower on. Not "you can't see sunlight" but "don't expect to be hit by direct sunlight except at high noon" (212) ShadowDragon8685: Kind of a ghetto. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Not really - it's not like, a shithole, but it's run down. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Anyway, he dropped the fake ID in the body of a specific wrecked aircar in an junkyard that's in an old, old airspeeder hangar. (433) Galadriel (enter): 21:23 (212) ShadowDragon8685: The junkyard itself is unmanned; anyone's free to dump any wreck they like in there, and scavenge for any parts they like. (212) ShadowDragon8685: This is balanced out somewhat by the small swarm of old scavenger droids that sometimes get... competitive. (340) Seiko: Seiko heads on over to the junkyard, looking for the airspeeder hanger (212) ShadowDragon8685: It's on the far corner of a huge, huge block-tower; down a ramp from the 'street' level. Lights flicker, scuttling droids move... And you can verify that the ID has been taken, the other half of the fixer's payment - amounting to 2,500 Cr - has been left in the driver's overhead compartment. (212) ShadowDragon8685: You can get started tracking him down any number of ways. T3-TT suggested you capture one (or more) of the 'scavenger' droids and let him tear their memory cores out... But it would be just as easy to grab one, hook it up to a datapad, and have Ferrago dump it's memory. (376) Ferrago: Ferrago, ahem, confiscates it as evidence... (212) ShadowDragon8685: You could also try asking the locals. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Or both. ** (266) Zalana goes to the locals ** (266) Zalana: (( Doing both sounds good )) (212) ShadowDragon8685: also, for no particular reason whatsoever, T3-TT has gone a bit nutso recently, and has been repainting the astromechs on Ackbar's ship - but never ones that go any place Ackbar routinely visits. (376) Ferrago: Ferrago opts to take a droid. (212) ShadowDragon8685: All right... (212) ShadowDragon8685: Ferrago: Computer Use. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Zala: Persuasion. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Seiko... What are you up to? (266) Zalana: (( can we take 10 or 20 )) (212) ShadowDragon8685: Sure, if you really want to take the time to question literally everybody... (266) Zalana: (( hmmm..nah. )) (266) Zalana: Skill Check: Persuasion [12,10] = (22) (376) Ferrago: [1d20+11] => [18,11] = (29) (340) Seiko: Seiko grabs the 2500 credits, and swings the compartment shut "Looks like the ID is missing. One of these droids musta scooped it up and made off with it...." (212) ShadowDragon8685: All right. You aw him last time, you were able to jog a fruit vendor's memory. He gave you a description of how Monar Tal altered his appearance, the alias he used (Alas Ial.) (212) ShadowDragon8685: Umm, Seiko? (212) ShadowDragon8685: I don't think you understand how a 'dead drop' works. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Here's how it worked: Slaver came by, left 2,500 credits. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Fixer went by, took credits, left ID. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Slaver went by, took ID, left another 2,500 credits (376) Ferrago: (I already got the creds, too) (376) Ferrago: Ferrago snatches one of the little droids, and hooks it up to a datapad. "Alright, little friend, let's see if you saw anything..." (212) ShadowDragon8685: Roll Computer Use. (340) Seiko: (Didnt know thats what this was. Got WAY too much background noise to think straight tonight.) (376) Ferrago: (I rolled it a bit upward, or did that not count?) (376) Ferrago: (I added the descriptive bits afterward) (212) ShadowDragon8685: Oh, sorry. (212) ShadowDragon8685: My bad, I didn't see it. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Anyway, it's your very, very lucky day. (212) ShadowDragon8685: This little droid was scavenging in the area when the guy you're chasing down came by. (212) ShadowDragon8685: He interpreted the slaver's taking the ID as a scavengeing competiror, and it tripped his ultra-competition circuit, so he followed him; as luck would have it, all the way to the flophouse he seems to be using. (212) ShadowDragon8685: It broke into the slaver's flop to try and get it back, but a blaster bolt sent him running; however, the guy probably doesn't know that anyone could find him that way. (376) Ferrago: Ferrago's snout curves into a Rodian smile as he scans through the memory banks. "What a convenient turn of events." (376) Ferrago: He pulls out his comlink to speak to Zalana and Seiko. "I got one of the scavenger droids and looked through his memory. It looks like he found our slaver friend's hideout." (340) Seiko: "Sounds too easy. You sure it aint a trap?" (376) Ferrago: "That seems a little farfetched. I'm all for caution, but this would be a pretty odd trap." (266) Zalana: "Indeed" (376) Ferrago: "Besides, even if it is a trap, we can't ignore an opportunity like this. Sit this one out if you'd like. I'm going in." (266) Zalana: "I don't care if it is or isn't at this point. He is going down." (212) ShadowDragon8685: By now, it's the middle of the night. (212) ShadowDragon8685: You want to grab him now? (376) Ferrago: Should give us the element of surprise. (212) ShadowDragon8685: allright. It's easy enough to find. The flop is a hole, one small, thick door. (212) ShadowDragon8685: You could slice it open electronically, lightsaber it open, smash it down with the force, Mechanics it open... (340) Seiko: "What do you say we just kick it down and go in, hmm?" (266) Zalana: (( +12 in Maechanics )) (376) Ferrago: "No, let's use stealth until we know what's in there." (376) Ferrago: "Zalana, you and I can get this open with little trouble, don't you think?" (266) Zalana: "We should make sure he can't get by us. Quick recon for any exits, and then we enter." (376) Ferrago: (+11) (266) Zalana: "No problem" (212) ShadowDragon8685: Well, there's two exits. (212) ShadowDragon8685: The door, and the window. (212) ShadowDragon8685: The window has bars. (212) ShadowDragon8685: It's also only a one-foot ledge out over a precipice. (376) Ferrago: Would the window need to be unlocked, then? (212) ShadowDragon8685: It would need to be opened with a plasma torch or a lightsaber. (212) ShadowDragon8685: he's not getting out through the window. (266) Zalana: Alright, so I do the lock and then we rush him (266) Zalana: Ready? (212) ShadowDragon8685: Sure. (266) Zalana: (( and this will be my last action for the night....*tear* )) (376) Ferrago: Yup (266) Zalana: Skill Check: Mechanics [5,12] = (17) (212) ShadowDragon8685: The door isn't going to open quite that easily... (212) ShadowDragon8685: But you didn't set off alarms or anything. (266) Zalana: (( one more try? )) (340) Seiko: "Good job. Can I cut it open yet?" (376) Ferrago: "Being stubborn? Want me to try?" (266) Zalana: "Give me a sec, wll ya?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: Sure, you can try again. (266) Zalana: Skill Check: Mechanics [10,12] = (22) (266) Zalana: (( well? )) (376) Ferrago: (can we say I took the carbonite gun and have it slung over my shoulder?) (376) Ferrago: (I meant to say that) (212) ShadowDragon8685: Sure. (212) ShadowDragon8685: So, are you just going to bust in and hose him down with carbonite/stun bolts? (376) Ferrago: I was going to try sneaking in... (212) ShadowDragon8685: All right, you can try that. (376) Ferrago: But that's just me. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Roll Stealth. (376) Ferrago: [d20+11] => d20+11 (266) Zalana: (( I will sneak as well )) (376) Ferrago: [1d20+11] => [2,11] = (13) (376) Ferrago: (what the hell.) (266) Zalana: Skill Check: Stealth [8,10] = (18) (266) Zalana: (( and with that, I must make my leave )) (212) ShadowDragon8685: Well, let's see... (212) ShadowDragon8685: Stealth is opposed by Perception, right? (266) Zalana: (( see you guys next week, if not sooner. )) (212) ShadowDragon8685: [1d20+5] => [8,5] = (13) (266) Zalana: (( yes )) (376) Ferrago: Yup. (212) ShadowDragon8685: ((Bye, Zala)) (376) Ferrago: (Seeya!) (212) ShadowDragon8685: Ooood, nuts. (266) Zalana: Disconnecting from server... (266) Vermillion (exit): 21:59 (212) ShadowDragon8685: Well, let's see... Hmmm. (376) Ferrago: (Wow. If only I had spent an FP.) (212) ShadowDragon8685: On a scale of 1-20, 1 being "totally innocous" and 20 being "Heinously embaressing"... (212) ShadowDragon8685: [1d20] => [3] = (3) (212) ShadowDragon8685: You crouch low, flatten to the wall, slide the door open, and slip in. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Just your luck he was looking AT the door at the time, having been throwing a bouncy ball against it in a reflexes excercize. (340) Seiko: Seiko sighs and shakes her head, following along behind quietly as well "This is never gonna work right...." (212) ShadowDragon8685: The bouncy ball sails past you into the corridor, but he hasn't seen Zalana or Seiko, either of whom he would recogn-... (212) ShadowDragon8685: Nevermind. (340) Seiko: (I whispered that, hence quietly :p ) (212) ShadowDragon8685: I thought you were following him INTO the room? (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Who the kriff are you, keputa," he demands, scowling at Ferrago and reaching for a blaster. (340) Seiko: (Yeah but depends on if he can see me past the rodian.) (212) ShadowDragon8685: 'If you think you can just slice into my room and take my stuff, you're sorely mistaken!" (376) Ferrago: "I'm selling these fine leather jackets..." (376) Ferrago: (Sorry, couldn't resist) (212) ShadowDragon8685: ... (212) ShadowDragon8685: Okay, try Deception. (212) ShadowDragon8685: -10 penalty. (212) ShadowDragon8685: His Will Def is 18. (376) Ferrago: Hahaha! (376) Ferrago: sure, why not (376) Ferrago: [1d20-1] => [10,-1] = (9) (376) Ferrago: Aww. (376) Ferrago: It would've been hilarious if that worked. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Yeah, it would've been. (212) ShadowDragon8685: He levels a blaster pistol at you (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Nice try, son-of-a-schutta." (212) ShadowDragon8685: What're you gonna do now? (212) ShadowDragon8685: "I think you need to drop those blasters." (376) Ferrago: "Sure, anything you say..." (376) Ferrago: He unclips the belt with his rifle on it, and slips the carbonite gun slowly off his back, making no sudden moves... at first. (376) Ferrago: Can I try a Force Disarm? (340) Seiko: Seiko snickers slightly from behind Ferrago (212) ShadowDragon8685: Sure. (376) Ferrago: As he does this, he focuses on the blaster pistol. He can feel the air around it. He senses the tension in the hand holding it, how strong the grip is. He evens senses his feelings, how much he expects an attack. Ferrago drops the last item to the floor, then, making a quick estimate of how much force he'd need to rip the pistol from the man's hand, lifts his own hand up, calling the weapon to him. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Stunt 1 (376) Ferrago: (er, senses the wielder's feelings) (376) Ferrago: (not his own) (376) Ferrago: [1d20+14] => [1,14] = (15) (376) Ferrago: [1d6] => [3] = (3) (376) Ferrago: (God! I rolled a 1?) (212) ShadowDragon8685: It's just not your kriffing day, is it? (376) Ferrago: (Freakin' dice) (212) ShadowDragon8685: He stumbles forward as you yank on the pistol, keeping a hold of it, and a blast gets triggered owing to him stubbornly holding onto it. (212) ShadowDragon8685: The blast is most likely accidental, but... (212) ShadowDragon8685: [1d20+4] => [19,4] = (23) (212) ShadowDragon8685: o.0 (212) ShadowDragon8685: What's your Reflex Defense? (376) Ferrago: ...22 (376) Ferrago: Really not my day (212) ShadowDragon8685: You take [3d6] => [2,2,4] = (8) damage as the blaster bolt grazes alongside your cheek. (212) ShadowDragon8685: I assume at this point, you'd like to actually, you know... (212) ShadowDragon8685: Draw your lightsaber? (212) ShadowDragon8685: Seiko? (212) ShadowDragon8685: Gonna jump in here? (340) Seiko: (More or less. Init?) (212) ShadowDragon8685: Don't bother. (212) ShadowDragon8685: The moment this guy sees lightsabers he's tossing his blaster to the floor and hands in the air. (340) Seiko: Seiko pulls the door open, and draws her lightsaber "Well hello there." (212) ShadowDragon8685: He sees you. Has a momentary flashback to his men - a troupe twenty strong, outnumbering you and Zala literally ten to one - being cut down to the last man in a whirlwind of glowing blades while he ran for it, and his running did no good. (212) ShadowDragon8685: The man, hardened murderer of innocent people, yelps like a scalded little boy and throws his blaster towards you, his hands shooting for the ceiling like they were attached to ion rockets. (376) Ferrago: Ferrago nurses the wound on his face. "Nice of you to drop in." (376) Ferrago: He begins collecting his weapons again. (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Y-Y-Yo-You!" (376) Ferrago: "You two know each other?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: He's grown a stubby beard since last time, his hair is now colored neon red. (212) ShadowDragon8685: New clothes - nerf-leather jacket and all, but it's definitely the same scumbag you saw last time. (340) Seiko: "Well well well..... funny metting you here. Small world eh?" (376) Ferrago: "Is this our man, then? I was expecting more." (376) Ferrago: (Wait, what species was the slaver? And what species is this guy?) (212) ShadowDragon8685: He gulps, and licks her lips. "I didn't shoot at you. You yanked the blaster into my fingers. You busted into my apartment without identifying yourselves. And you aren't law enforcement officials in any event." (212) ShadowDragon8685: ((He's the slaver you came looking for, the 'aquisitor')) (212) ShadowDragon8685: ((He's a human male)) (340) Seiko: Seiko twirls her lightsaber once, keeping it ignited as she enters at a leisurely pace, glancing around the room "And you are wanted quite badly, for multiple counts and skipping bail. (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Fine. Call the Courscant police. Need a comlink?" (478) Katria (enter): 22:21 (478) Katria (exit): 22:21 (212) ShadowDragon8685: He looks... quite scared. (340) Seiko: "Oh it gets better. You assaulted and shot a jedi... not alot of questions to answer during the investigation. Self defense, you know? I mean, look at his cheek." She said, pointing towards Ferrago (212) ShadowDragon8685: "And that was on record. He yanked my pistol into my hand." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "And not only did he not identify himself, Jedi are no longer recognized by the Republic. He could've been any two-bit schutta." (340) Seiko: "Well he is a bit rough around the edges." She said with a chuckle "But taking in someone dead is less paperwork then taking them in alive. Funny, isnt it?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: "D-Do it, and your whole damn order is going down as assassins," he says, trembling. (376) Ferrago: "Seiko..." (340) Seiko: "Pretty talented, Ive never seen someone threaten and tremble all at the same time." (376) Ferrago: "As far as killing people goes, I'm not one to talk, but this one's surrendering." (212) ShadowDragon8685: The slaver clears his throat. "Koi, commlink command. Courscant police, emergency call. Senator in distress, code 0597." (212) ShadowDragon8685: In the room you hear a beep, and a soft female voice, "Command confirmed. Courscant HTR enroute." (212) ShadowDragon8685: Ferrago, you'd know what that means: High-Threat Response. (376) Ferrago: "Senator?!" (340) Seiko: "Yeah, right. Shut up and put your hands down. And this time, your not skipping bail." (212) ShadowDragon8685: He keeps his hands up. "Skipping bail? No. I don't need to." (376) Ferrago: "This is bad. We need to get out of here." (212) ShadowDragon8685: The female voice, BTW, came from a hovering discus like robot (212) ShadowDragon8685: A little protocol droid, it seems. (376) Ferrago: "It won't take them long to get here. We need to go!" (340) Seiko: "Ok, well go." She walks behind him, getting out her binder cuffs "Soon as I tie this guy up and drag him out of here." (212) ShadowDragon8685: He's not resisting at all. (376) Ferrago: "No. You think I'm leaving because I'm afraid?" (376) Ferrago: "What do you think will happen when they find two Jedi, or just one, if you stay, holding someone at lightsaber point?" (376) Ferrago: "Fey'lya would just use this against the entire Order. He would justify his actions, or even further actions." (340) Seiko: "Whats with you and the rambling. We've got the guy, now we can go." She said, slapping binder cuffs on his wrists and then walking him towards the door (483) Todd (enter): 22:30 (212) ShadowDragon8685: All right. He lets you push him towards the door, not resisting, but not being quick, either. (483) Todd (exit): 22:31 (340) Seiko: Seiko doesnt let him take it slow, keeping him moving forward at a good pace "Whoever he really called will find an empty room, and we'll be long gone." (376) Ferrago: "I hope you're right." (212) ShadowDragon8685: He's not going to quick-march it unless you actually poke him with the lightsaber. (340) Seiko: "Now lets go turn him back over to stand trial." (212) ShadowDragon8685: That'll happen much more quickly than you were expecting. (376) Ferrago: As he walks, Ferrago checks his launcher and loads a stun grenade into it. (Which I assume I have?) (212) ShadowDragon8685: His protocol droid follows you, dutifully recording everything. When you emerge from the building... (212) ShadowDragon8685: You find a party line of Courscant police airspeeders landed, police out, with pistols and carbines leveled at you over the vehicles' chassis. (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Drop your weapons! Hands in the air!" (376) Ferrago: "I don't want to say I told you so..." (340) Seiko: "Huh. Fast response time." Seiko says, putting one hand on her hip She gives the 'slaver' a nudge forward "But your still late. Got the guy already." (212) ShadowDragon8685: An airspeeder swoops into the scene - this one is not an air-car, but an armed, military-style airspeeder in the colors of the Courscant High-Threat Response Team. Heavily-armored HTR members grav-belt out, training their blasters on you. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Seiko... They're pointing their weapons AT YOU. (212) ShadowDragon8685: You are the bad guys here. (340) Seiko: Seiko also has no weapons visible, save for the slight outline of her lightsaber handle her robe makes against it (212) ShadowDragon8685: so unless you're really going to try and carve your way out through a shitload of cops and HTR teams... (212) ShadowDragon8685: It might behoove you to surrender. (376) Ferrago: Any way we could run? (212) ShadowDragon8685: Well, sure. You're Jedi. Surge-leap over them, burn Force Points to keep Surging until you've outrun their airspeeders and go to ground. (212) ShadowDragon8685: But do you really want to explain that one to Master Skyalker? (376) Ferrago: Ehh, good point. (376) Ferrago: Ferrago sighs and puts his hands up. (376) Ferrago: "But I did." (340) Seiko: "We're here on jedi business, to capture this individual. Hes a slaver whos engaged in countless horrible acts against childrenand their parents. I could go on a name a few but it might make some of you squeemish." (376) Ferrago: "Forget it, they're not going to listen to you." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Hey, it's that Jedi - the one that was arrested for vigilantism last time," one of the cops say, as they move in, keeping their blasters trained on you, Seiko. (340) Seiko: "He needs to come and stand trial for his crime." She holds tightly onto the binder cuffs (376) Ferrago: "Not here, anyway." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Throw down all your weapons," they blast over the loudspeaker, and the slaver yelps, "Help! These crazies are trying to kidnap me!" (340) Seiko: Seiko is standing in the doorway, still, with the slaver in front of her... not really much to move in on. (212) ShadowDragon8685: "I'm the Senator from Polneye, they just busted into my rented accomodations and grabbed me at lightsaber point!" (212) ShadowDragon8685: More airspeeders are arriving. (212) ShadowDragon8685: By now you're facing a small combat unit's worth of cops. (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Last warning - drop the weapons!" (340) Seiko: "Here." Seiko says, pulling out a data padd. She holds it up and hits play. Across the screen flashes a short video of the individual being held in prison and having charges read to him from last time, including the murder and depravity ones. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Seiko... ** (212) ShadowDragon8685 sighs. ** (212) ShadowDragon8685: Think about this. (340) Seiko: Seiko also has no visible weapons and has the slaver directly in front of her, in the doorway, still. (212) ShadowDragon8685: You're in front of a shit-load of armed guards who think you're holding a senator hostage. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Do you think making any movements is going to turn out well? (212) ShadowDragon8685: I don't want to say you just get cut down in a hail of stunbolts... (212) ShadowDragon8685: But come on, you're facing at least thirty cops. (212) ShadowDragon8685: And fifty SWAT-equavilents. (212) ShadowDragon8685: ((Though granted, a lot of those are behind heavy weapons on the airspeeders)) (376) Ferrago: Ferrago walks forward and turns himself in to the cops with his hands behind his head. (340) Seiko: (so, what your saying is just sit back and enjoy the railroad ride?) (212) ShadowDragon8685: I'm saying he's outmanouvered you and has the law fighting on his side. (340) Seiko: (how did they get there in under 30 seconds is what I want to know.) (212) ShadowDragon8685: Trying to convince them otherwise while you still have him effectively held hostage won't help. (212) ShadowDragon8685: It was considerably more than 30 seconds to get him to ground floor. (212) ShadowDragon8685: By that time, every single patrol unit in range - every beat cop - had been scrambled code-red. (212) ShadowDragon8685: And the HTR teams were gearing up. (340) Seiko: (um, how long? I was planning to be gone before a minute had passed?) (340) Seiko: LONG gone, that is (212) ShadowDragon8685: But even if it was only a few cops, really... (212) ShadowDragon8685: What're you gonna do? (212) ShadowDragon8685: Cut down uniformed officers of the law? (212) ShadowDragon8685: Become Courscant's new most wanted? (212) ShadowDragon8685: Even if it is only the eight cops nearest to the scene... (212) ShadowDragon8685: Are you really going to murder them? (340) Seiko: (im really just questioning their ability to arrive in the time it takes us to exit a building.) (212) ShadowDragon8685: He was forty floors up in a building with old, slow turbolifts. (212) ShadowDragon8685: There's gotta be at least two airspeeders full of cops that can get there in a minute and a half, two minutes. (212) ShadowDragon8685: You took time putting him in cuffs, he was dragging his feet on the march out... (212) ShadowDragon8685: Look, there's no way you're getting out of this one. (340) Seiko: Seiko looks at the slaver "You, confess your crimes to these men." (212) ShadowDragon8685: Even if you evaded the cops, flew back to Home 1, there'd be warrents out for your arrest. (340) Seiko: (whispering): Mind Trick [1d20+6+8] => [9,6,8] = (23) (212) ShadowDragon8685: And if you tried to escape Courscant, there'd be New Republic Starfighter Corps fighters chasing you down. (340) Seiko: (whispering): [1d6] => [6] = (6) (212) ShadowDragon8685: His eyes go blank for a moment. "I can't confess to a crime I haven't commited. I have diplomatic immunity for anything you believe I've done." whispering to Seiko, It worked; he's telling the truth. (340) Seiko: "So is it true you had children enslaved and parents murdered to create orphans?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: His eyes go blank again. "Yes, I have done that," he adds, as one of the cops gets a closer look at him. "Wait a minute - didn't that guy jump bail?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: Aaand congratulations, Seiko. (212) ShadowDragon8685: You've just compelled self-testimony. (376) Ferrago: wow (376) Ferrago: that was easy (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Take 'em all in," the HTR commander orders. (340) Seiko: "No kidding. We've got a mountain of evidence on him already. Just dont let him slip away this time." (212) ShadowDragon8685: The slaver is all to happy to comply, "Yes, please! Take these crazies' weapons away and get them away from me!" (340) Seiko: "Yeah, ive been TRYING to tell you that forever now. Even showed you a VIDEO of it. Glad you finally caught on." Seiko gives him a shove forward into the cops waiting arms, smirking (212) ShadowDragon8685: ... (212) ShadowDragon8685: Seiko... ** (212) ShadowDragon8685 sighs ** (340) Seiko: She too, surrenders herself (212) ShadowDragon8685: Do you really think shoving him while a ton of blasters are pointing at you is a good idea? (212) ShadowDragon8685: All the blasters train on you again, and you're very swiftly put in binder cuffs and thrown in the back of an airspeeder with four guys holding blasters on you and Ferrago. (340) Seiko: (Oy, your taking me too literal. I dont just like SHOVE him forward. Picture a small nudge as I let go of the binder cuffs so he didnt run off) (212) ShadowDragon8685: all right. (340) Seiko: (Ot was really just for descriptive purposes, sheesh :p ) (212) ShadowDragon8685: Anyway, fortunately, Zalana slipped away from all of this when she heard the cops being called, and called Leia Organa-Solo. You wind up in a holding cell across the way from the guy you 'brought in', with armed guards watching you constantly. (212) ShadowDragon8685: She, and Master Skywalker, arrive around the same time that Malor Tal's lawyer - and a Senatorial Staffer. (340) Seiko: Seiko yawns and takes it easy, using this chance to relax and recoup, looking pretty smug the whole time "See?" She says, looking over at Ferrago "If we'd just left and fled, he'd have gotten off scott-free." (212) ShadowDragon8685: The cops exchange words with the lawyers, and the senator... (376) Ferrago: "Yeah, yeah..." (376) Ferrago: "I coulda done without the jail time, though." (376) Ferrago: He hasn't been as relaxed. He doesn't look being cooped up in here. (212) ShadowDragon8685: The security chief looks livid. "But this man jumped bail -" "And he's a Senator. Diplomatic immunity applies. You have no jurisdiction to hold him." The security chief looks quite irate, but they do, in fact, release him. "Senator Tal... You're free to go," he says, with obvious crow stuffed in his throat. (340) Seiko: "Eh, sadly im getting used to it. Anyway, even if he does somehow slip through the cracks in the system again, his life as a senator is over. Taped confessions of him in a droid, probably a few cameras those cops had...." (340) Seiko: "Speaking of cracks in the system...." (376) Ferrago: "Wait, what?" (376) Ferrago: "No! No karking way!" (212) ShadowDragon8685: "My lawyer has advised me not to speak with you," Tal says, as he walks out. The lawyer walks up the cops, as Skywalker walks back into the room with a steaming cup of caf. "You're Master Skywalker, right?" "I am." He hands Skywalker a datapad. "You're served. See you in court." The lawyer walks out as well. (376) Ferrago: He kicks the door of their cell. "I can't believe this..." (212) ShadowDragon8685: Luke looks... Rather nonplussed drinking caf. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Youch! (212) ShadowDragon8685: That forcefield door smarts. (376) Ferrago: Ferrago hops up and down on one foot for a sec. Not the smartest thing he's ever done. (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Will someone please let them out of there," Leia demands, walking back into the room. "If that man is a Senator, then I'm a Dark Lady of Sith!" (340) Seiko: "Relax. There will be reports about his acts all over the news around here by the end of the day. He wont be senator Tal any more." (212) ShadowDragon8685: Owing to the fact that it's, well... The former Cheif of State, you're quickly allowed out of your cells, and given a conference room to speak with the Master and his sister. (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Will someone please tell me what happened," Leia asks, stealing Luke's cup of caf and drinking it deeply whilst he thumbs through the legal brief he was handd. (212) ShadowDragon8685: "I thought you were supposed to be with Ackbar!" (340) Seiko: "Long story short, we tracked the guy down, he surrendered, and called in his police using a comm. They showed up, and jailed us all." (340) Seiko: "Oh he's here too. Well not HERE here. Hes aboard home one." (376) Ferrago: "We were. He agreed to help Seiko and Zalana follow up their investigation into a slaver case they had been on." (212) ShadowDragon8685: She nods. "Yes, I remember. I recall springing them from this very detention center last time." (212) ShadowDragon8685: She pinches the bridge of her nose. "I'm going to be burning a lot of favors to get this mess dropped." (340) Seiko: "On the plus side, the guy confessed to enslaving children and murdering parents to create orphans, in front of a dozen media recorders, and a hundred cops. His career is toast, and it wont be long before they launch a full investigation." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "What's this about him being a senator? The codes that Staffer showed were correct." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "... Wait. Confessed?" (376) Ferrago: "I decided to help out, too... I didn't expect this. Is this guy really a Senator?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: She blinks. (212) ShadowDragon8685: "You didn't have a lightsaber to his throat at the time, did you?" (340) Seiko: "No, I had him in binder cuffs though." (376) Ferrago: "Not his throat, per se..." (376) Ferrago: (You never said you put away your lightsaber or turned it off) (376) Ferrago: (I think GM assumed you never did) (340) Seiko: (I holstered it before I cuffed him) (340) Seiko: (I even described it as the outline under my robes at some point) (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Coerced confessions mean nothing.." Leia pinches the bridge of her nose again, finishes the rest of her brother's caf. "Did you have a weapon trained on him? Or did you..." (340) Seiko: "I did, the second thing your thinking off, but all he did was spout propeganda about diplomatic immunity in response. Weird huh?" (376) Ferrago: (Ahh, that's right.) (376) Ferrago: (You did say you had no weapons visible.) (212) ShadowDragon8685: "..." She reaches up, laying her head in her hands, and her brother pats the back of her shoulders. "Luke?" "Mmmm?" "Less lightsaber practice, more legal education." "Mmmmh," he agrees. (376) Ferrago: (That was the only mention, though.) (433) Galadriel: Disconnecting from server... (433) Galadriel (exit): 23:09 (340) Seiko: "The actual confession came after that. No hand waving during that part, all that got me was propeganda about diplomatic immunity." (376) Ferrago: "For the record, my lightsaber wasn't drawn," Ferrago pipes up. Hey, gotta cover his own hide. (212) ShadowDragon8685: She sighs. "That's not going to matter." (340) Seiko: "And he complained alot too, come to think of it," (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Coerced confessions are worth nothing. But after the spate of dark-sided crisis that happened in the mid-teens, new legislation was passed to make coercions extracted by the Force prejudician in the extreme." (376) Ferrago: "On the other hand, I had three different weapons strapped to me..." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Anything you forced him to say in front of a recorder is not only inadmissable, it poisons any investigation into those activities," she says, tinily. (340) Seiko: "I have a tape of him confessing, with no force coercion. All the hand waving got me was some spouted propeganda. Already said that." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Seiko, seiko, seiko..." She sighs. "Any lawyer will shred any attempt to argue that inside of five seconds." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "And that's assuming you could even get him into a court. He's still apparently under the umbrella of diplomatic immunity." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Where did he say he was from?" (340) Seiko: "Why does diplomatic immunity let him do all of this stuff again?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: "All right. Say the Senator from, I don't know, Kuat, goes to Corellia for something." (340) Seiko: "I cant see it protecting a child murderer. Dont they generally revoke it for horrible crimes such as this?" (376) Ferrago: "Polyneye," Ferrago pipes up. (376) Ferrago: *Polneye (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Kuat and Corellia are fierce competitors, so they'd want to harass the other senator or his staff - if his airspeeder gets parked wrong, throw the book at him, and such." (340) Seiko: "This is a bit more serious then a double parked speeder. Anyways, I got the guy and got a taped confession. His careers ruined anyway..." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "This kind of thing gets... Messy after a while. New Republic law requires all senators and senatorial staff to be immune, blanket, for any crimes which are not high felonies, defined by the laws of Courscant and the New Republic military." (340) Seiko: "Mass murder and slavery arent high felonies? Geez, so what IS a high felony then? Blowing up a galaxy?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: "But there's some leeway where certain things are concerned. Dueling, for instance, has exceptions. So does certain forms of indentured servitude." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Regardless, no. Murdering on a huge scale would not be exempted. But your little Forced confession has given him immunity to that." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "He could take the podium in the Senate and confess to that and he's beyond touch for that." (340) Seiko: "It wasent forced.... also none of this makes sense." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Luke, you're awfully calm about this." Her brother nods. "This is good." "Good?" "Yeah. We're being sued, of course. You'll get them sprung, no doubt, and Ackbar will be livid when he hears about this. Livid is better than apathetic." (212) ShadowDragon8685: Leia sighs. "Seiko, look. You're a Jedi. Did you tell him to do something that no right-thinking person would do in that situation - confessing to a high crime in front of the police?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: "If so, then you Forced it out of him. That's how it will look, that's how the judge will rule." (340) Seiko: "Yeah, but it didnt work. He spouted propeganda. Also ive said that already..." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Hold on. Let me get a copy of the recording." (212) ShadowDragon8685: Leia stands up, and in five minutes has a holo-projection on the table. (340) Seiko: "I mean, I tried it sure..." she shrugs (212) ShadowDragon8685: It was taken from one of the patrol-cars, and is showing Seiko telling the man to confess his crimes. (212) ShadowDragon8685: He says he has diplomatic immunity. (212) ShadowDragon8685: She then directs him to answer about whether or not he specifically has murdered parents in order to enslave the orphans. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Which he admits that he did. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Leia pinches the brow of her nose. "How does that look to you," she asks, and Luke answers, "it looks very much like you forced a confession out of him. Ferrago, how does it look to you?" (513) rookie (enter): 23:20 (376) Ferrago: "Little forced, yeah." (212) ShadowDragon8685: Leia sighs. "Great. You've just given him absolution for any instances of murdering parents and enslaving children, Seiko." (513) rookie: (whispering): hello whispering to rookie, Allo. (513) rookie: (whispering): whats this like? (212) ShadowDragon8685: "If I were the judge, I would have to throw this one out," Leia admits. "And I am a Jedi." whispering to rookie, Well, two players are getting grilled. (340) Seiko: "That doesnt make any sense either." (340) Seiko: "So the confession cant be used. But declaring you did something doesnt make you immune to having done it." (513) rookie: (whispering): for? (212) ShadowDragon8685: "The right not to incriminate yourself is deeply ingrained in our society. Something to do with the Emperor being perfectly willing to torture confessions out of perfectly innocent people." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "But it goes beyond that, Seiko. Using the Force to revoke someone's free will is exceptionally heinous from a legal point of view. It permanently prejudices the judicial system against any such inquiries." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "It's set up that way precisely so we can't do this kind of thing." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Even if this confession was inadmissable, it could still, in theory, set the police on the trail of a crime they would otherwise be helpless to pursue." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "And as such, it would result in an illegal compulsion resulting in a conviction in any event - that's a big no-no." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Hence, the only way to handle this kind of thing is to permanently prejudice against it." (513) rookie: (whispering): is this modern? (340) Seiko: "We're hardly helpless to pursue it. We've got a small monutain of evidence already." whispering to rookie, Star Wars. (513) rookie: (whispering): O.O (212) ShadowDragon8685: "It doesn't matter. He could walk into the Senate with no Jedi in sight and deliver a blow-by-blow account of every single time he's done it and he's untouchable, Seiko." (513) rookie: (whispering): i was totaly thinking republicans and crap (340) Seiko: "That might just be the dumbest legal system ive ever heard of." (513) rookie: (whispering): is it to late to join? whispering to rookie, With a name like Knights of the New Republic? (212) ShadowDragon8685: Master Skywalker shakes his head. "It's frustrating, but it's entirely valid, Seiko." (513) rookie: (whispering): to bo honest i only read the knights and republic part (513) rookie: (whispering): and i have bin playing liberal crime squad today (513) rookie: (whispering): so totaly stuck in a modern thought track (340) Seiko: "Not really. The evidence we had prior to this is still usable anyways, just throw that at him." (212) ShadowDragon8685: He shakes his head. "Seiko, you may not like it, but you've poisoned that evidence." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "He's beyond touch for any such crimes he's commited in the past." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "You'll have to find another way." (340) Seiko: "You just said yourself... 'it could still, in theory, set the police on the trail of a crime they would otherwise be helpless to pursue.' but it doesnt mention evidence we already have on him." (513) rookie: (whispering): and is this game jedi only? whispering to rookie, It is. (515) Chani (enter): 23:27 (513) rookie: (whispering): jedi only and to late to join? (340) Seiko: "I cant poison something already collected and entered as fact." (212) ShadowDragon8685: Leia shakes her head, smiling sadly. "Unfortunately, it won't work that way, Seiko. That's the explaination, but the root fact is this; he's immune for those crimes now." (513) rookie: (whispering): or jsut jedi only? (513) rookie: (whispering): just* whispering to rookie, Jedi only. We're full. (513) rookie: (whispering): aww dam ok (340) Seiko: "That still doesnt make any sense. He wasent coerced." (340) Seiko: "Not for lack of trying, mind you." (376) Ferrago: "But you can't prove that." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "You took him out of his apartment at the point of a lightsaber, and you very dramatically had used the Force to compell him. Look at how he goes glassy-eyed." (340) Seiko: "Sure can." (376) Ferrago: "How?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: "The best prosecutor in the galaxy wouldn't touch this case with a three-meter pole." (340) Seiko: "I didnt drag him out at lightsaber point, I cuffed him and marched him out. The droid taped the whole thing." (498) Autarkis (enter): 23:30 (376) Ferrago: "But you're a Jedi." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Semantics; you were armed, he was helpless." (376) Ferrago: "He'll say you mind tricked him." (376) Ferrago: "Get it?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Which you did, whether or not it was on that specific question." (340) Seiko: "He ALSO shot Ferrago. Droid taped that too." (212) ShadowDragon8685: ((For the record, I was under the belief that you were still Mind Tricking him.)) (212) ShadowDragon8685: "It doesn't matter. You gained illegal entry into his rented accomodations." (376) Ferrago: "The shot was an accident, I came in unannounced. It won't hold up." (376) Ferrago: "If anything, that'll just look bad for me." (340) Seiko: (I cant, I only have one use of it) (212) ShadowDragon8685: "He could have shot you all dead, legally. We're not empowered law enforcement officers anymore." (212) ShadowDragon8685: ((I was playing fast and loose in your favor. Would you have preferred he said nothing?)) (513) rookie: Disconnecting from server... (513) rookie (exit): 23:32 (340) Seiko: (if I had a pref I would have brought it up.) (340) Seiko: "Well in any event, just more cracks in the legal system. Lets get going shall we?" (376) Ferrago: "Seiko, for someone so cynical, you sure seem to look at the galaxy through rose-colored glasses. Maybe you and I know we were in the right, and that he's a scumbag, but it's not all about truth and justice in the court. He's a senator. He has power." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "If you really want him this bad, here's what you're going to have to do. We're going to have to figure out his diplomatic immunity and get it revoked. Then you're going to either have to find evidence of other crimes which were unrelated to the slaving scheme and get him indicted on that, or else find a jurisdiction to take the case that doesn't have the same laws." (376) Ferrago: "We're Jedi. The current chief of state hates us." (376) Ferrago: "If we can't prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that he's guilty, it's his word against ours. His is gonna win." (340) Seiko: "Thats an aweful lot of work just to end up back in this room again. I figured I'd just go ruin his career by releasing this tape everywhere." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Where did you say he was from again," Leia asks, and Luke answers for Ferrago, "Polyneye." "Polyneye... Why is that familar?" He answers with one word, "Yevetha." "Yeve-" Her eyes go wide, and she groans, dropping her head into her forehead. (212) ShadowDragon8685: "It won't matter." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "He's the Senator of a planet with a population of one. He's the sole inhabitant, by definition the government constitutes himself." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "He's autocrat, emperor, and Senator in one." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "This... Is my fault," she says. (376) Ferrago: "...You're joking, right?" (515) Chani : (whispering): wow. lame. (340) Seiko: "No, im pretty sure people dont tolerate senators who murder enslave and pillage, no matter how much the law tells them, they should." (340) Seiko: "They'll be forced to deal with it, and him, like it or not." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Seiko, his consistuancy is himself." (376) Ferrago: "He's a senator... representing a planet with one inhabitant." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "The person setting the rules deciding whom Polneye sends to the Senate is... Him." (340) Seiko: "And when the people of THIS planet find out?" (376) Ferrago: "Which is him." (515) Chani : (whispering): incredibly fucking lame. whispering to Chani , Why do you say that? (515) Chani : (whispering): the galactic senate wouldn't allow something as dumb as a senator with a planet pop of 1. (212) ShadowDragon8685: "What? The people of Courscant have as much say over whom Polyneye elects to the Senate as they do over whom the people of Kuat send. Which is to say, none." (515) Chani : (whispering): you're gay. whispering to Chani , Actually, they did. whispering to Chani , Wookiepedia for "Polyneye" (376) Ferrago: "No offense, but that's the stupidest thing I ever heard. What kind of power could a senator 'representing' a planet with no other inhabitants possibly wield?" (376) Ferrago: "He's just representing himself!" (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Exactly as much power as any other Senator," Leia says, with a sigh. (515) Chani : (whispering): so, you mean there's other gay writers out there, besides yourself. noice. (340) Seiko: "I say again, this is the dumbest legal system ive ever heard of." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "It's... A bit of a story. When the Yevetha launched their Purge, they killed off every inhabitant of the planet Polyneye save one." (340) Seiko: "Its actually kind of amusing, that a goverment could be this useless and somehow not collapse." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "He was a TIE interceptor pilot, Platt Malar. He fled the planet and made a chronicle of Polyneye's fall. We rescued him, heard his tale, and Polyneye was immediately admitted into the New Republic, granting it a seat in the Senate." (376) Ferrago: "The Republic's collapsed a few times, as I recall..." (340) Seiko: "Hence my point...." (515) Chani (exit): 23:39 (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Which made him the Senator de facto, but instead of sitting, Platt decided to join the Navy and seek vengeance. He was killed." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "We left Polyneye in as a member, a vacant world with a vacant seat, as a monument to the boundless bloodthirst of the Yevetha." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Unfortunately, it seems that your slaver has decided to colonize." (376) Ferrago: "I can't believe you left yourselves open like that." (340) Seiko: "Thie stupidest goverment ive ever heard of it getting stupider by the day. So, all we gotta do is convince him to move and hes out of the senate eh?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: "This would never have happened under my watch," she mutters, darkly. "I left strict instructions with the bureau of populations that the planet Polyneye was never to be accepted for recolonization." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "On the other hand," she says, brightening, "what would you say if I told you that I could have him nailed down on Courscant?" (376) Ferrago: "So we have Borsk Fey'lya to blame for this... Just like all our other problems." (340) Seiko: "Tell me where to sign." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "It's easy. The Senate is in emergency session." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "A delegation from the Remnant arrived two days ago, and all Senators are expected to be in attendance. Many will send an aide..." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "But owing to senatorial rules, aides must be citizens of the Senator's planet." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Since he's a population of one - no aide. And since the session is an emergency session, attendance is mandatory." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Which means that peace officers can be dispatched to place him in custody and escort him to the Senate chambers." (340) Seiko: "So, he misses, and he gets a slap onm the wrist?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: Luke shakes his head. (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Not at all." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "What she's saying is that she can keep him nailed down here while you go and find the legal framework with which to build the cage whose door will hopefully weld shut on him." (498) Autarkis: Disconnecting from server... (498) Autarkis (exit): 23:44 (340) Seiko: "Your sending me... to find... Legal Framework?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: "This is going to be difficult and awkward. Not all of our enemies are Sith, not all of them obligingly fight to the last. These are the trials that faced the Jedi Knights of the Old Republic; not merely challenges in combat, but challenges in law, in upholding justice and order, even when they seem turned against us." (376) Ferrago: "Evidence." (376) Ferrago: "How long will the emergency session last?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: "If you want to nail him down on the charge of slavery or murder, you'll to find a jurisdiction which can take the case, with the legal clout to require the New Republic to secede jurisdiction, and to demand extradiction." (212) ShadowDragon8685: Leia grins. "Well, it's been in session three days... And they're not done with introductions yet." (376) Ferrago: "Can you translate that into Basic for us?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: "I expect the preamble will take another week... And I got a peek at their agenda." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "They'll be hashing this out for two months at the bare minimum." (212) ShadowDragon8685: Leia looks at Luke. "We'll have to send Threepio with them." He nods. (212) ShadowDragon8685: "In layman's terms, you'd need to find a governmental body which is not a member of the New Republic which is willing to claim the case. They'll have to have the power or connections to get the New Republic to give the case to them, and to demand a Senator be extradited. That won't be easy." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "It would help, of course, if you could get him De-senatored." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "That won't be easy. A Senator can usually only be removed by prevailing upon the government of his planet to remove him. In this case, he is the government of his planet." (340) Seiko: Seiks face looks rather flat right now "Going in search of legal framework and technicalities.... you dont happen to know of a dark sith master who needs slaying instead, do you?" She says with a wince (212) ShadowDragon8685: Luke laughs. "If every battle were as simple as that, we'd be unemployed and they'd just throw proton torpedoes at every Sith that came around." (340) Seiko: "Throw proton torpedoes at it...." She says thoughtfully (212) ShadowDragon8685: "We are not assassinating him," Leia cautions. (340) Seiko: "Sorry just wishful thinking" She says jokingly (212) ShadowDragon8685: The Jedi Knight grins. "I know." (376) Ferrago: Ferrago has to sigh inwardly. Assassination really would be the simplest solution... (212) ShadowDragon8685: Luke raises an eyebrow at Ferrago. "The easiest path, the fastest, simplest path, is the Dark path. Remember that." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Certainly, we could just have him erased, but that would be heinously illegal. Even ignoring practical and legal reprecussions, it would be wrong." (340) Seiko: "No one said jedi cant have senses of humor afterall. Anyway, im not even sure where to begin here. Give me a mystery to solve, or force training to master, or an opponent to defeat..... but politics?? Ugh." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Politics is in many ways a mystery and a puzzle." (376) Ferrago: Ferrago straightens up. Was Master Skywalker reading his thoughts?... (212) ShadowDragon8685: "The numerous paths to success are as limited as your imagination and grasp of the law." (212) ShadowDragon8685: ((After all the pupils he's had slide to the Dark Side, he's gotten damn good at spotting it. :) )) (340) Seiko: "My imagination certainly isnt lacking, but anything multiplied by zero is still zero..." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "If you think the situation is hopeless, you need to search your feelings to find your path. There's always a way." (340) Seiko: "I didnt say hopeless. Just im a poor choice for this job is all." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "That's why you're the right choice for it," Leia says. "If we only ever play at our strengths, we ignore our weaknesses and they stagnate." (340) Seiko: "You and your damn logic..." (340) Seiko: "Fine fine. I STILL dont even know where to begin. Ferrago?" (527) Ferrago (enter): 23:58 (340) Seiko: "Fine fine. I STILL dont even know where to begin. Ferrago?" Attempting to assign the role of PLAYER to (527) Ferrago... (212) ShadowDragon8685: ((Ferrago?)) (527) Ferrago: "Just to be clear, what kind of person could help remove this guy from office?" (527) Ferrago: (what did I miss?) (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Well, to get him removed without the consent of the government of his planet, you'd need to find evidence of a capital crime; a grave crime against sentients." (340) Seiko: "I still cant believe all that crap we have isnt considered grave enough or that immunity bit..." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Murder, enslavement... Oppression of a sentient species, crimes against an entire species..." (527) Ferrago: "Then we need proof of his slave trade." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Oh, it would certainly be enough, but his slave trading activities prior to now are inadmissable. Gone. Out of the equation." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "If you could find evidence of another murder commited by his hand, a slave he himself owned, a... Mmmh. Something grave; murder, enslavement, genocide, rape... Something legally and morally heinous." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Conspiracy," Luke says, and she nods. "Oh, right. Thanks to a legal link that was added last year, conspiracy to a crime is no longer a crime one step down from the crime itself." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "If you can prove conspiracy, it's as good. Accessory won't be enough, though." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Other than that..." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "The New Republic does not involve itself in the disputes of planets." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "If you could find some people willing to 'settle' Polneye and stage a coup, set up a new government and oust him, that would make him no longer a diplomat." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "But there'd have to be at least one person willing to basically occupy the space he's in now, to be the seated Senator." (527) Ferrago: "Now, that's an interesting thought..." (340) Seiko: "How about me?" She says with a grin "Senator Seiko?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: She shakes her head. "Borsk passed a bylaw forbidding any Force Sensitives from holding Republic-level office." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Besides, if you don't like politics now, a few days of that would have you seriously contemplating eating your lightsaber," she says with a grin. (340) Seiko: "Him again? Proton torpedos eh...." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Yes. Ironically, he built on the precedent I pushed for." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "If we can't trust those who can compell hearts and minds not to coerce testimony, how can we trust them not to compell votes?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: Sourly, she frowns. "That one passed with enough of a majority that it probably would've passed even if he were still Senator Fey'lya." (527) Ferrago: "It's fair enough reasoning, though." (212) ShadowDragon8685: She nods. "It really is, though I suspect he rammed it through just so I couldn't run against him later." (340) Seiko: "So, we need someone to colonize, with me and ferrago, and then hold a vote immediately, and oust him?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Well, what you'd be doing is basically staging a revoloution. With no blood on-planet to be shed, it would be bloodless, of course..." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "But you'd still need to document everything - taking and seizing the 'center of government,' holding refferendum and such..." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Threepio can help you with that." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Come to that," Luke murmurs, "if you can pull off seizing his planet from him, you'll have effectively the powers of a planetary government - including automatic extradition approval. Again, the slaving and the murdering would be off-limits..." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "But," Leia adds, "as he would still be a citizen of Polyneye, he would be automatically within jurisdiction." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Of course" the Jedi Master cautions, "You'd need to make provisions for actually imprisoning him." "I'd suggest Kessel," Leia adds. (340) Seiko: "Im pretty sure I had a nightmare about this once..." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "They don't throw prisoners into the mines anymore, but Nein Numb owns the place now, and he still runs a maximum-security penitentiary. Normally he charges for the right to incarcerate your worst criminals there, but it should be possible to convince him to incarcerate this one for the princely sum of, say, a credit per decade." (340) Seiko: "What a bargin..." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "The real pain in that plan - aside from finding someone Numb likes enough to have this guy occupying cell space for eternity - will be finding people willing to colonize a death world. There's other plans, of course." (340) Seiko: "I dont suppose blowing the planet up is on the table is it?" (212) ShadowDragon8685: "But I'm sure you'll think of something. Regardless, remember what's important here; justice. Just having him killed would not be justice. Jedi don't kill helpless people, and he's not going to be obliging enough to fight to the death." (212) ShadowDragon8685: Leia snickers. "Fresh out of Death Stars, sorry." (340) Seiko: "Yeah. He very clearly dropped the pistol soon as he saw the lightsaber." (212) ShadowDragon8685: She nods. "He's not a coward... But he also knows we won't kill a helpless man." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "And he feels quite confident that he's got us stretched over the storage cylinder here." (340) Seiko: "We'll see how he feels in a few weeks once we've got him bent over one instead. Cmon." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "I'll have you sprung by morning at the latest. He might want to try something like extraditing you two to Polneye, but it won't fly, especially since he'll be too busy listening to some Imperial drone his ears off." (340) Seiko: "Oh I hope he does manage that one actually. That'd just make it easier...." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "He found a good card to play in the 'Senator' card. I'm confident that you'll find the flaw in his deck and take him to the cleaners," she nods. (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Don't be so sure. He'd probably autocratically decide that ex post facto is legal on Polneye, that the punishment for all crimes is death, and that the dictator decides what is a crime." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "That wouldn't fly usually, but you two aren't very popular with the legal system at the moment." (212) ShadowDragon8685: Luke stands up, and nods. "I need to see what I can do about dealing with this lawsuit. Of course, if you can get him incarcerated in a maximum-security penitentiary, that won't matter." Leia nods. "I'm going to have him 'escorted' to the Senatorial apartment complex, and from there to the Senate chambers. Find a way. Take him down, put him in a cage he'll never escape from." (212) ShadowDragon8685: She grins. "The senatorial apartments for Polneye should be four bare walls and a floor, since Platt Malar never used them and they haven't been visited save for cleaning staff." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "The real pain, of course... Will be keeping him out of Borsk's eye." (340) Seiko: "And why would that matter?" (376) Ferrago (exit): 00:26 (212) ShadowDragon8685: "If the Chief-of-State realizes that this man represents a vote that would always be loyal to him in exchange for shielding him from the law, he'll be able to make this almost impossible. I'll do everything I can to prevent that, but it would be better for Borsk never to realize that; or failing that, be faced with a fiat accompli." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "A planetary vote may be small - but the vote of Polneye counts precisely as much as the vote fo Kuat, or Corellia, or Courscant itself does." (340) Seiko: "Oh goody, more legal terms ill never remember... I hope your taking notes Ferrago." (212) ShadowDragon8685: Leia slips out, quickly, while Skywalker grins. "Have you ever heard the phrase, 'it's better to beg forgiveness than ask permission'? That's the essence of fiat accompli - something is already done." (527) Ferrago: "Did you say something?" Ferrago seems a little distracted. (212) ShadowDragon8685: "Try not to get arrested again. Leia's burning a lot of favors on this one. It's starting to look as if we can't control our students." (340) Seiko: "Eh heh heh.... well im not one for taking the subtle route afterall..." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "I'll make sure Threepio's aboard Home One by the time you get back. He may be annoying at times, but in addition to protocol and interpretation, he has fairly extensive legal knowledge. He should be able to help you if you give him a question. I'll admit you got blindsided by this one, though." (212) ShadowDragon8685: "I have faith that you'll prevail in bringing this monster to justice, though. May the Force be with you." (212) ShadowDragon8685: ((Can we cut?)) (340) Seiko: "I find I am quite good at surprising just about everyone around me." She says, with a grin (340) Seiko: (anytime. gonna have something neat to show you both next time) (212) ShadowDragon8685: Cool. (212) ShadowDragon8685: And if that seems a bit railroady... Sorry. But I hope it should be interesting, even if the set-up was a bit of a brick wall to run into. (340) Seiko: Oh I was idly bitching :p (340) Seiko: so just ignore me (212) ShadowDragon8685: One of those lurkers got all up in my face and calling it "gay", and Kate seemed pissed off. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Ah well. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Sometimes you have to set-up a bad guy who seems to be holding all the cards so it's more satisfying when he gets taken down. (212) ShadowDragon8685: Anyway, XP... (212) ShadowDragon8685: Let's say... 1,250. (527) Ferrago: What lurker? (212) ShadowDragon8685: Chani. (527) Ferrago: He was dissatisfied with how the game was going? (212) ShadowDragon8685: yeah. (527) Ferrago: Aww (212) ShadowDragon8685: He thought the thing about an empty seated planet was 'gay'. (212) ShadowDragon8685: I told him it was canon, and he said "wow, so there's someone out there as gay as you." (340) Seiko: hah, was that the galaderial guy? (527) Ferrago: hahaha (340) Seiko: he whispered me some rather odd things as well
