The Lord Holder is the ruler of a Hold Major. Succession to the position is by bloodline, but not by primogeniture. Rather, a Lord chooses his successor from among his children (usually - but not necessarily - sons). In order to be officially a Lord Holder, a Conclave must Confirm a new Lord. His wife, or a woman in the same position, is known as the Lady Holder. A Lord Holder is considered the equal of a Craftmaster or Weyrleader.
