Subutai was a general in the Sith Empire during the Great Galactic War who defected to the Galactic Republic. As an officer of the Republic Army, he was made a major general. Subutai was considered by both his Republic and Imperial colleagues (and enemies) as a good tactician, adapting his tactics based on the enemy, the terrain, the weather, and other specifics. He preferred maneuvering and getting the enemy army into a worse position before striking. Subutai used these methods during the war, and liberated much territory for the Republic from the Empire after the defection. Following the Sacking of Coruscant, Subutai was turned over to the Empire with other high ranking defectors as part of the treaty signed by the Republic. Afterwards, he was executed for treason by the Empire.

- Subutai (, Sübeedei; Classic Mongolian: Sübügätäi or Sübü'ätäi; Tsubodai 1175–1248) was the primary military strategist and general of Genghis Khan and Ögedei Khan. He directed more than twenty campaigns in which he conquered thirty-two nations and won sixty-five pitched battles, during which he conquered or overran more territory than any other commander in history. He gained victory by means of imaginative and sophisticated strategies and routinely coordinated movements of armies that were hundreds of kilometers away from each other. He is also remembered for devising the campaign that destroyed the armies of Hungary and Poland within two days of each other, by forces over five hundred kilometers apart.
