This is one of britain's largest and heaviest moths with a fat body, visible claws and skull pattern on it's thorax which gives it it's name. This can be a terrifying moth to anyone who sees it for the first time, esspecially as it emits a high-pitched squeak if touched. They have a wingspan of four-and-a-half inches, their wings being held on the top of their body. The caterpillar are also quite fearsome. They reach 5 in. in length when fully grown and have a 'horn' at their rear end. They produce a clicking sound when disturbed and feed on potato and tomato plants.
