In 2001, Claude is betrayed by his girlfriend Catalina during a bank robbery and he is shot, injured and arrested. He escapes from a prison vehicle thanks to Cartel members kidnapping one prisoner whom Claude later rescues. He then starts to work for local figureheads in the criminal underworld of Liberty City, at the same time seeking for an opportunity to find Catalina and exact revenge. Claude finally confronts Catalina and kills her during a shootout. It is unknown if he killed Maria Latore while the credits roll.
