Robert Smigel (b. 1960) is a comedian, writer, animation producer, and performer best known for his TV Funhouse animated segments on Saturday Night Live and as the puppeteer behind Triumph, the Insult Comic Dog. Smigel has served as a writer for Saturday Night Live and as head-writer for Late Night with Conan O'Brien. Smigel performed Triumph in a cameo role for It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie. Smigel was also one of three writers for the 2006 Saturday Night Live cartoon, "Journey Inside the Disney Vault" which referenced Jim Henson and the broken deal with Disney.
