Starting 29th in the field of thirty-eight, McDonald was black flagged late in the event for being too slow and wound up with a poor 30th place finish as a result.

He started the year off well at Concord. Though being in a tiny nineteen-car field, McDonald's 14th place finish in the race turned out to be his career best finish. He had a shot to improve on that when he returned to Weaverville later in the year, but rear end gear woes left him 19th.
