  • Inkan (or hanko) is a personal seal commonly used in Japan in place of a signature. There are two types of hanko with different levels of legal significance. One is called jitsu-in, and is essential on important legal documents and contracts, such as when buying or renting real estate, a house, a car, etc. It is registered at the municipal office of the district where you reside. The other type, called mitome-in, is not registered and is used on less important documents such as acknowledgement of receiving a parcel, registered mail, etc.

  • The Seals were three objects given to The Priest by the Vatican for his trip to Lorwich. • Seals (La. "merikoirat", sing. "merikoira") migrated into Forochel's bays and inlets in spring, before scattering to warmer waters in the South in autumn. There were two main types of seals of interest to the Ystävät Talven. The first was the fur seal or karvainen merikoira, used for both meat and fur. The second was the lihamerikoira, used primarily as a source of meat and leather (especially armor). The Snow-elves found seals absolutely delighful, spending hours wandering a beach among them and staring into the big, brown, intelligent eyes of the creatures.
  • The Seals are the residents of Seashell Shore. One day, Sigmund, Sal and Stu were using the Rhynocs' submarine and accidentally crashed it into some rocks after taking it for a joyride. They later got arrested by the rhynocs while their friend Sebastian was gone. The Seals are a mixture of purple and blue, and wear a sailor suit with a shell on it. In the epilogue, the Seals from Seashell Shore invented a sport called 'squid-surfing'.
  • Seals are similar to coats of arms in that they contain heraldic symbology but have no arm, or shield. They are reserved for purposes not deemed in need of a coat of arms - as in villages of minor population, individuals that have not yet proven to be of worthy esteem, and other such things. Seals are only given to nobles, important members of the community (Mayors and Council Members) and members of the URACE clergy. Also, Counties can receive their own seal. Families cannot receive seals.

  • The Seals were a soccer team in San Francisco in an alternate where Imperial Germany ruled the world. Crosstimers Paul and Lawrence Gomes took a Sunday off to watch the Seals play their rival, the Missions at Kezar Stadium. The Seals were identified with the more well to do part of San Francisco's population. Their colors were Orange and Black, and its fans habitually blew trumpets during the games to express support for the team. Paul Gomes, who disliked the Seals, felt that they made more noise than music, and that they were the same kind of people as those who in the home timeline supported the New York Yankees baseball team.

The second was the lihamerikoira, used primarily as a source of meat and leather (especially armor). In spring, the seals could literally cover a beach in one great, boisterous and gregarious colony. The female seals were fairly placid, preferring to take to the safety of the sea rather than fight. The bulls, however, could be aggrissive in their defense of territory or harems. In the water, the animals had never been known to attack Men, except occasionally or a slight nip or bite as the creatures included the individual in their underwater play.Protective of cubs, but slow and clumsy on land they would retreat to the water if threatened. The Snow-elves found seals absolutely delighful, spending hours wandering a beach among them and staring into the big, brown, intelligent eyes of the creatures.

Seals also appear in Bentley's outpost, this time serving as enemies. Upon finding them Bartholomew informs Bentley that it took forever to train them to throw snowballs, and then they turned on him. Indeed, they do throw snowballs, but can be defeated by backfiring them with Bentley's Spin block. In the epilogue, the Seals from Seashell Shore invented a sport called 'squid-surfing'.
