Richard Joseph "Dick" Durbin (born November 21, 1944) was the 46th Vice President of the United States from 2005-2009, serving under President John Edwards, and is the current Governor of Illinois. In early 2008, he announced he did not desire a second term in the executive branch, instead hoping to return to his native Illinois. A former US Senator, Durbin ran in the 2010 Illinois gubernatorial election and unseated incumbent Democrat Pat Quinn in the primaries before winning the general election. Durbin is described as one of the most liberal members of the national Democratic Party and was often said to be unhappy with the Edwards administration.
