Corvo and his unit, Cobb included, were among the troops assigned to protect Konrad Adenauer when the German leader visited Erlangen. Instead, Corvo and his men could do nothing but watch helplessly as a GFF mortar attack killed Adenauer. Although a draftee, Corvo decided to stay in the Army, a fact that surprised Cobb when the two met again in Bad Tölz, Germany in 1947. Corvo vaguely hinted that he'd had a criminal past back home New Jersey, and so felt that the Army had more opportunities.
