- Yugoslavia (Jugoslavija -- "Ju" as in You!) was the name of a former generic communist utopia, best known for its phonetic alphabets and exploding hatchback cars. Legend has it that the name is a portmanteau of "you", "go" and "slavery" (a favourite hobby among the poor in all its incarnations). There was a significant difference between the socialist Yugoslavia and the original kingdom of Yugoslavia. The former was founded by one Josip Broz Tito (twin brother of the beloved pup of Ozzian fame), whereas the latter was originally formed in the early 1900s by the rock band Franz Ferdinand.

- Yugoslavia (Serbo-Croatian: Jugoslavija/Југославија, Slovene: Jugoslavija, Macedonian: Југославија) was a country in Southeast Europe during most of the 20th century. It came into existence after World War I in 1918[i] under the name of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes by the merger of the provisional State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs (itself formed from territories of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire) with the formerly independent Kingdom of Serbia. The Serbian royal House of Karađorđević became the Yugoslav royal dynasty. Yugoslavia gained international recognition on 13 July 1922 at the Conference of Ambassadors in Paris.
- Teams from Yugoslavia first participated at the Olympic Games in 1920. Previously, several athletes from Croatia, Slovenia and Vojvodina had competed for Austria or Hungary when those countries were part of the Empire of Austria-Hungary. - Yugoslavia participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 27 times as a union, debuting in 1961 and competing every year until its last appearance in 1992 before its dissolution, with the exceptions of 1977 to 1980, and 1985. Yugoslavia won the 1989 contest and hosted the Eurovision Song Contest 1990, in Zagreb, present day Croatia.
- Yugoslavia refers to several political entities in the Balkans region which existed between 1919 and 2003. Since that latter date, there is no state that officially uses that name. The first Yugoslavia, briefly called the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, was a large multi-ethnic kingdom created by the victorious allies after World War I. For a matter of days in 1941, Yugoslavia was a full fledged member of the Axis. However, after the ruling prince was overthrown, Germany invaded and conquered the country, setting up several puppet states including Croatia and Serbia while annexing other territory.
