Anton Bachmann was an army buddy of Adolf Hitler during World War I. According to legend, Hitler and Bachmann bravely leapt into the line of fire to rescue Lieutenant Colonel Philipp Engelhardt, who had carelessly wandered into danger. Bachmann was later transferred to another unit and died fighting in Romania.
