In 3,921 BrS, the Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Malak, arranged an ambush for the young Jedi Padawan Bastila Shan, whose skill in the art of battle meditation had been essential to the war effort of the Galactic Republic against the Sith Empire. Successful in the device's recovery, Revan returned the engine to Thek and was allowed to compete in the Season Opener. After Revan won the race, Brejik accused the Beks of cheating and claimed that the prize would not be given over to the winner. Brejik and his comrades then initiated a brawl, but were defeated by Revan and Shan, who had freed herself.

abstract
  • In 3,921 BrS, the Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Malak, arranged an ambush for the young Jedi Padawan Bastila Shan, whose skill in the art of battle meditation had been essential to the war effort of the Galactic Republic against the Sith Empire. Malak's former Master, the amnesiac ex-Sith Lord Revan, was serving aboard the Endar Spire, believing himself to be nothing more than a Republic soldier. Also on board was decorated Republic Commander Carth Onasi, in addition to Revan and Shan. An evacuation of the ship was authorized, and the soldiers on board the Endar Spire attempted to make their way to the escape pods. After Shan had already fled, Revan, who had made his way through the battle-ridden ship, reached Onasi and the final escape pod. As the pod jettisoned from the ship, heading towards Taris' surafce, the Endar Spire exploded. Shan's pod vanished somewhere on the surface of Taris. After crashing in the Tarisian Upper City—and knowing the importance of Shan to the Republic—Revan and Onasi sought to find her. Following every lead possible, Revan and Onasi eventually came upon the Hidden Bek Base and spoke with the leader of the Hidden Beks swoop gang, Gadon Thek. Thek informed the pair that Shan had been captured by the Black Vulkars, a rival swoop gang, and was being held as prisoner, and the Vulkars' leader, Brejik, planned to offer Shan as the prize for the Tarisian Season Opener, the first major swoop race of the season. Thek offered Revan the chance to race in the Season Opener—thereby winning Shan's freedom—if he retrieved a prototype accelerator that the Vulkars had stolen. Accepting the deal, Revan and Onasi proceeded into the Undercity to enter the Black Vulkar Base. Impressed by Revan's efforts in the race, the Mandalorian mercenary Canderous Ordo offered him an opportunity to escape the planet by stealing Exchange boss Davik Kang's flagship, the Ebon Hawk. Agreeing to the proposal, Revan raided the main Sith military base to acquire codes to bypass the blockade. After doing so, Ordo brought Revan to Kang's estate to steal the ship. Malak, meanwhile, had grown weary of the protracted search, and, seeking to eliminate Shan, he ordered Admiral Saul Karath to thoroughly bombard the planet's surface. As the Sith fleet in orbit repositioned itself, Ordo and Revan succeeded in gaining access to the Ebon Hawk. However, they were confronted by Kang and the bounty hunter Calo Nord. As the bombardment began, Kang was killed in a brief firefight, and Nord was incapacitated. With the way clear, Revan and Ordo boarded the freighter, picking up the former's companions, and blasting off into space. The Ebon Hawk eluded a vanguard of attacking Sith fighters before fleeing into hyperspace, en route to the Jedi Enclave on Dantooine. Despite their escape, the bombardment continued until the entire world was virtually scoured of life—billions of beings were killed, in the process.
