Like OpenDune, it requires the .PAK files from the original game and uses the same graphics and sounds. You need to own the original game separately, so there is no copyright violation. Dune Dynasty has basically the same gameplay of the original game, but adds a modern interface, including multiple unit selection, building queue, mouse wheel zoomable graphics. Some new features, such as fog of war, are optional. The three original campaigns of Dune II are available, and other classic mods (Super Dune 2, Dune 2 eXtended, etc) can be added easily.

The new skirmish mode allows single-player battles with up to 6 houses (the original three plus Fremen, Sardaukar and Mercenary) on random maps. Computer players can be hostile or allied to the player, and start out with a random generated base.
