- Colonel Manton went with Kovarian to threaten Dorium Maldovar in the Maldovarium before the Battle of Demons Run. Manton was present with Kovarian at a troop rally in the hangar of Demons Run, where he boosted his troops' morale and ordered them to kill the Doctor on sight. To show them their advantages over the Doctor, he revealed the strength of their new allies, the Headless monks; they were literally headless and could not be diverted by compassion or surprise. However, the Doctor, in disguise as a Monk, revealed himself to Manton and all of the troops. As Manton raised his gun, Vastra and Jenny, two of the Doctor's allies who had seized the hangar control room, switched off the lights, allowing the Doctor to blend in with the Monks again in the dark.

Ils kidnappèrent Amy Pond peu après son mariage, car elle était enceinte, et la remplacèrent par un Ganger de Chair. Le corps d'Amy, inconsciente du fait qu'elle n'était pas en train de voyager avec le Docteur et Rory, fut gardé sur l'astéroïde de la Retraite du Démon (DW: The Almost People, A Good Man Goes to War). Manton accompagna Kovarian au Maldovarium pour menacer Dorium Maldovar afin de lui soutirer des informations. Celui-ci rétorqua que le Docteur montait une armée et qu'ils devaient se préparer au pire, car toutes les histoires sur le Docteur étaient vraies. Dans un hangar de la Retraite du Démon, Manton prononça un discours pour ses soldats dans lequel il dit que le Docteur n'était qu'un homme. Il expliqua ensuite la nature des Moines sans Tête avec lesquels ils étaient alliés et sur lesquels les soldats se posaient des questions. Les Moines avaient réellement la tête coupée, car ils croyaient que la foi venait du cœur et non de la tête. Mais alors qu'il soulevait la capuche de l'un d'eux, celui-ci s'avéra être le Onzième Docteur sous un déguisement. Manton le menaça avec son arme, mais les lumières s'éteignirent et le Docteur disparut à nouveau. Confus, les soldats tirèrent sur les Moines, qui commencèrent à les exterminer. Manton hurla et implora les Moines d'arrêter. Il déchargea son arme en signe de bonne volonté, et les troupes firent de même. Lorsque les Moines arrêtèrent et les soldats eurent finit de décharger leurs armes, un bataillon de Siluriens et une troupe de Judoons se téléportèrent dans le hangar, forçant les soldats à se rendre. Le Commandant Sontarien Strax arriva derrière Manton et l'informa que le Docteur prenait contrôle de la base. Manton répliqua que si la base était prise, un signal de détresse serait envoyé et des renforts arriveraient. Le Docteur répondit alors que le signal ne fonctionnerait pas si leur système de communication était détruit, et des Spitfires bombardèrent la base. Manton, battu, fut obligé de se rendre. Il fut ensuite appelé par le Docteur dans la salle de contrôle. Celui-ci, en colère, lui dit de donner l'ordre de "prendre la fuite" à ses troupes, ajoutant qu'à partir de maintenant il serait appelé "Colonel Fuyard". Mme Kovarian, qui avait un plan secret mais à qui Manton n'était plus d'aucune utilité, lui dit de se plier aux plans du Docteur. Confused as to the Doctor's whereabouts, the troops targeted the Monks. One of the troops, believing a Monk to be the Doctor, opened fire, provoking the Monks to draw their weapons and strike down several troops. Realising that the Doctor had gained the upper hand and fearing that the Monks had turned against them, Manton ordered his troops to unload their weapons to persuade the Monks to stand down. The moment the troops finished unloading, a battalion of Silurian warriors and a platoon of Judoon teleported into the hangar and forced the rally to surrender. Commander Strax appeared beside Manton, announcing that the base now belonged to the Doctor. Manton warned that Demons Run would send out an automatic distress call to his outside fleet in the event of an attack; the Doctor, revealing himself once more atop a hangar walkway, countered this by ordering a pair of space-worthy Spitfires provided by Winston Churchill to destroy the base's comms array. With his entire army defeated in minutes, Manton had no choice but to surrender. Manton was called to the Doctor in the hangar control room. The Doctor, infuriated at Manton's and Kovarian's conspiracy to reach him by hurting his loved ones, told Manton to order his troops to "run away", taunting him angrily that he would be known as "Colonel Runaway" by everyone who saw him. As Manton was effectively useless for her secret plan, Kovarian abandoned him to the Doctor's orders, cruelly remarking "give the order, Colonel Runaway". (TV: A Good Man Goes to War)
