  • John Sinclair (7 July 1860 – 11 January 1925), known as First Baron Pentland of Lyth in the County of Caithness from 1909, was a Scottish politician. He served a single three-year term as a Progressive Party member of the London County Council representing Finsbury East from 1889-92. He did not defend his county council seat in 1892, having been elected to the House of Commons as member of parliament for the Scottish constituency of Dunbartonshire. He later represented Fifeshire before being raised to the peerage in 1909. He sat in the cabinet as Secretary for Scotland from 1905 until his appointment as Governor of Madras in 1912, a post he held until 1919.
