Bernstead was the home of the Telmarine Lord Bern. It was located on the south side of Avra, one of the Lone Islands. It was also the only known community on Avra. When the Dawn Treader was signalling its fictitious companion vessels of the "Narnian Fleet" as part of a ploy to mislead Governor Gumpas, Caspian ordered the fleet to "Double the cape and stand off Bernstead". Bernstead was used as the end point because at no point would the ships have been visible from Narrowhaven .
