The season started off first with Hurricane Austin forming on June 24th, quickly reaching category 4 status before making landfall in New York City (specifically Long Island) at a borderline category 2/3 hurricane, being the fifth hurricane to directly make landfall in New York City. The season ended with Tanya, a category 1 hurricane that formed extremely north, making landfall in Newfoundland as a depression before dissipating due to cooler waters, ending the record breaking 2058 season.
