Héctor Elizondo (born December 22, 1936) is an American actor who is best known for his role as Dr. Philip Watters on the CBS medical drama series Chicago Hope from 1994 to 2000. He voiced Zafiro in the 1994 Disney television series Gargoyles and Malcho in the Aladdin TV series, and portrayed Joe in the 2001 Disney film The Princess Diaries and its 2004 sequel and the Warden in Taking Care of Business. He also played Barnard Thompson in Pretty Woman, Mickey Massey in Raising Helen, Ernie in The Other Sister, and a judge in Beaches. He also voiced Fiero in Elena of Avalor.

  • Elizondo was born in New York City, the son of Carmen Medina Reyes from Puerto Rico and Martin Echevarria Elizondo of Basque descent. At a young age, Elizondo demonstrated a talent in sports and music. He sang for the Frank Murray Boys' Choir when he was ten years old. Upon graduating from junior high school in 1951, he enrolled in the High School of the Performing Arts; he also attended a regular public high school where he excelled in basketball and baseball and was scouted by both the New York Giants and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
