As a high school football player, Jenkins led his Highlands Ranch Colorado ThunderRidge High School Grizzlies a perfect undefeated season in their first year in 5A high school football . He was named 1st Team All Southern League Quarterback and broke seven quarterback records during his one year as starting quarterback. Jenkins also played baseball and basketball for ThunderRidge earning Southern League Honorable Mention as well as hitting the most home runs on the team during his senior campaign in baseball. Jenkins is considered to be one of the top two impressive quarterback in Division II per Eric Galko of Optimum Scouting. At the end of Jenkins 2011 college junior season he is currently ranked in the top 5 in five quarterback statistics categories and in the top 20 in four other quarterback statistics categories for all of NCAA Division II active career leaders:
