Novice's Gleanings in Bee Culture was established in 1873 by Amos Ives Root of the A. I. Root Company. It had been intended to be a quarterly, but was quickly changed to a monthly publication after its first issue. After the first year, its name was truncated to Gleanings in Bee Culture. A. I. Root had used the pseudonym, Novice, in the American Bee Journal where he had been a frequent contributor. He continued its use in Gleanings. The magazine has been succeeded by Bee Culture.
