The Royal Guard, also known as the Corpse or HorseMan, is an enemy from Final Fantasy II. They act as minions to The Emperor, and two of them accompany him in the boss battle on the seventh floor of the Cyclone, along with a Wood Golem. Both Royal Guards must be destroyed before the Emperor can be reached with weapon attacks. They also appear as random enemies in previous floors of the Cyclone. Immediately prior to the battle against the Emperor, Mateus also dispatched two waves of Royal Guards against Firion and his party, as he had believed them to not even be worthy enough to be "crushed under [Mateus's] foot."
