The Mk. II was a far more original design than the Assault Frigate Mk. I that it was built from. Its weapon systems were intermediate between the Mk. I and the Dreadnaught, consisting of a tight anti-fighter defense screen of fifteen laser cannons and twenty quad laser cannons. It retained ten of the Dreadnaught's quad turbolaser cannons and kept the fifteen turbolaser batteries from the Mk. I. Like the Dreadnaught, it also took the high-capacity concussion missile launcher.

II's production line was largely increased for the New Republic following the capture of certain shipyards, namely Kuat, but the Astragon also acquired them and made their armaments differ from the Mk. I. Unlike the MK. I, the ship had no fighter docking ports, but it retained the assault shuttle, though variations of the New Republic's model posessed a hangar, sacrificing crew quarters and storage space in the process.
