  • The New England Patriots are a professional football team based in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
  • The New England Patriots, commonly called the "Pats", are a professional football team based in the Greater Boston area, playing their home games in the town of Foxborough, Massachusetts at Gillette Stadium. The team is part of the East Division of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL). The team changed its name from the original Boston Patriots after relocating to Foxborough in 1971, although Foxborough is a suburb of Boston, miles ( km) away. An original member of the American Football League (AFL), the Patriots joined the NFL in the 1970 merger of those leagues. The team advanced to the playoffs four times before appearing in Super Bowl XX in January 1986, losing to the Chicago Bears. The team also appeared in Super Bowl XXXI in January 1997, losing to the Green Bay Packers. Between 2001 and 2005, the Patriots became the second team in NFL history (after the Dallas Cowboys) to win three Super Bowls in four years (Super Bowl XXXVI, XXXVIII, and XXXIX), and the eighth to win consecutive Super Bowls. The Patriots, however, were defeated by the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII, after winning the first 18 games of their 2007 season. Under quarterback Tom Brady and head coach Bill Belichick, the Patriots have also compiled the longest winning streak consisting of regular season and playoff games in NFL history, a 21-game streak from October 2003–October 2004.
  • Originating from Sussex, the Patriots were formed by a then-unknown Sir Lancelot, who had recruited roughly twelve protestors with the likes of a young Steve Urkel, Jimmy Stewart and the Ayatollah. The common theme between the protestors were that they were all not of Norman race, and that they were incredibly ticked off with Protestants.
  • The New England Patriots are a playable team in the Madden NFL franchise series.
  • In "If I'm Dyin', I'm Lyin'" Johnny Gobraun was the starting quarterback against the Pittsburgh Steelers, thanks to the Grant-A-Dream Foundation. At the time, Drew Bledsoe was the starting quarterback. Less than two weeks after the original airing of this episode, the Patriots drafted Michigan quarterback Tom Brady in the 6th round of the 2000 NFL Draft. In "A Very Special Family Guy Freakin' Christmas", they played the Steelers once again, this time in throwback uniforms, on Monday Night Football. When Peter Griffin dared to record the game, the government intervened and asked if he had the permission of both ABC and the NFL. Griffin showed he only had permission from ABC, who retained broadcast rights of Monday Night Football until the 2006 season. Because he did not have both, the government broke his VCR. They also appeared in "Patriot Games", when Peter signs with the team. Although some of the players' numbers were done randomly for the episode, some were the numbers of actual players on the team that season. Peter's number was actually filled that season by Tom Ashworth, who played the Tackle position. Former Wide Receiver Troy Brown and current Quarterback Tom Brady voiced themselves in the episode. Coach Bill Belichick, though he did not appear, was mentioned, though not by name. In "Lethal Weapons", the citizens of Quahog would not let the leafers, who want Horace to turn on the game of the rival New York Jets, deprive them of watching that week's Patriots game while at The Drunken Clam. When the Patriots are beaten by the Buffalo Bills in "3 Acts of God", they guys set out to find God to see what his beef is with the Patriots. God reveals that he has disfavored the team because coach Bill Belichick refused to smile after being given three Super Bowl victories. They guys manage to get Bill to smile and God agrees to leave the Patriots alone. Patriots tight ens Rob Gronkowski, as well as his brother Gordie Jr., appear in "Gronkowsbees" when Rob moves into the neighborhood. Lois is aroused by wide receiver Julian Edelman, and announces her intent to masturbate while thinking of him.
