Matthew Vincent LaPorta (born January 8, 1985) is a first baseman and left fielder for the Cleveland Indians. He was drafted 7th overall in the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft out of the University of Florida by the Milwaukee Brewers.

But then LaPorta made it to the big leagues in 2009. And after being a great minor league hitter, he struggled at the pro level. His batting average was too low, he struck out too much, and his defense in the field was less than elite. The LaPorta craze had crashed. LaPorta was out of major league baseball by 2012 at the age of 27.
